You may not have ever heard her name, but Mary "Hercules" Promitis's claim to fame was her cure for aching feet. During the dancing marathons of the 1920's, people would try to outlast each other. The longest marathon in Chicago lasted 119 days.

One of the biggest problems was aching feet. Learning from prize fighters who pickled their hands before a fight, Mary soaked her feet in brine and vinegar for 3 weeks before the 1928 Madison Square Garden marathon. After the health commisioner ended the dance 3 weeks later, Mary was feeling no pain!

Could this be a good home remedy to use before a dance?

You know, it sounds a little unconventional, but desperation may drive me to try it...vinegar and brine, you say? :)

Thanks for the tip, DM.

sure... kill all sensory receptors in your feet and you shouldn't feel much pain... although... you probably won't feel much of anything.

... another thing worth keeping in mind ...

there were lots of misconceptions about things in the twenties!

Now the question I'm wondering is, how bad did her feet SMELL after soaking them? :|
