Our groups is at the stage where we want to start picking a piece of music to dance to.
Can anyone suggest pieces of music for a danse group show ?
something attention grabbing and lively, with no slow parts etc, etc.
Also does anyone know of any software available to edit music files (preferibly mp3's) so that you can add or remove parts of the tune ??
Any ideas anyone ??

How long is your exhibition going to be? Who's the audience? Spanish language or do you want English?
Oh yeah, and check out Salsero AT's thread on his dance group. It's here

The thread contains some input on dance performance groups. Maybe something there will interest you. 8)

I have questions:
 what is the performace about; its theme?
 Is it carrying out the story of which ever song you might choose? Or, Are you guys dancing a set routine that doesn't necessarily have to depict what the song is about?
Meaning that you already have the routine. If so, I suggest you guys choose something with a lot of descarga in it.
 Who will be your audience? Salseros, mix, non-salseros?
If salseros, pick a good classic tune, something different to them. Mix, a popular classic tune. Non-salseros, they don't know the difference so you can play just about anything lively, with non-salseros is all about energy and crazy wild fast beats that will shock them.
I guess you guys want something fast, really fast, so fast that the audience is going to be lifted up their seat just by the wind generated by your group.
I assume length isn't a concern since you are looking for software to edit the song.
Here are some "fast" stuff I don't mind pressing the gas pedal for, these songs, for my standards, I consider fast.
Me gusta el son – Fania/France two set CD – Monguito
Al Son De Los cueros – El Pito -- Sonora Carruseles
Mumbo Jumbo – Los Flamboyan
La Pelota – Ray Barreto
La Banda//Mama Guela – Spanish Harlem Orq
Sonido Bestial – Richie Ray & Bobby Cruz
Some of those songs are way over played in my opinion, but a new creative performance to them is always welcome.
Bilongo, Ajiaco Caliente (a.ka. Malanga) Eddie Palmieri // These 2 I just absolutely love, so I had to put them here, I think they are so good that makes up for not being as fast as something like La Pelota.
I love Aguanile by Hector Lavoe, however, it has the slow parts in it that you spoke of not wanting, but definitely worth considering...
Welcome to the forums :D And best luck with the performances.
There is a software package called cool-edit that you can get a shareware version on-line. It will edit songs for you. I can't remember how though.

This song is not a fast song. I was listening to it when i was writing the post and I was so into it that I mistakenly wrote it as fast song. I apologyze for the mistake. Sometimes I go crazy and I dont realize what i'm writing.Sorry.
