Guess what? I talked my best and oldest girlfriend into trying ballroom dance.
The only problem is that she's in Philadelphia, and with my awful early dance studio experiences, I don't want to steer her wrong. Can anyone here recommend a good quality, reputable ballroom studio in Philadelphia? Please PM me.
Thanks. :D

Hi, all. I'm looking for recommendations for studios offering beginner classes in the Philly area, preferably in Philly. (Yes, that's right, I've forgotten how to dance and have moved to Philly. ;) ) My brother and his girlfriend would like to take some smooth/standard. I would rather not send them to a chain studio; I already heard about one of the package deals they were offered at a chain studio.
Thanks for any help you can give.

How about the Fortunas' dance studio? I think it might be called Universal Dance Center.
Their comp is in two weeks, too, so maybe your brother and girlfriend could check that out and see if they like the people.

The Fortuna's studio, Universal Dance Center, in Collingswood, NJ (across the Ben Franklin bridge) is pretty popular. I don't have much first-hand experience there, but I have friends who dance there and like it.
Depending on what they're looking for, your brother and his girlfriend might also want to check out Penn's Ballroom Dance Club (great group of people). They offer a range of classes to the public from the beginner level up. Their prices tend to be very reasonable. Traditionally, the Sunday classes have been geared toward social dancers, while the team classes (during the week) have been more technically focused. I'm not sure who has been teaching the Sunday classes, but I believe Ihor Kravets and Gene LaPierre have been teaching the team standard and smooth classes respectively.
Ihor also teaches at Stardust Ballroom in Pennsauken, NJ (short drive across the Betsy Ross bridge) as a free-lance instructor. He mostly teaches privates there, but I believe he may also have a beginner group class at Stardust.
If your brother and his girlfriend are willing to drive a bit further, they might also check out Pete Taylor's Crystal Dansport in Wilmington, DE (about ~40 min drive). I go there occasionally and have always liked the atmosphere. (Mazen and Irina are among the instructors teach there.)
Feel free to email me with any questions or if you're interested in basic info about studios/instructors in the area.

Tomorrow, I have tryouts with a dancer coming in from New York and meeting me in Philadelphia. We contacted a few studios but they're ethier too small or not open on Sundays. Help! All suggestions would be extremely helpful!
Maybe Universal Dance Center in Cherry Hill, NJ?

Stardust Ballroom over in Bellmawr has floorspace available. They're huge.
Society Hill Dance Academy is decent sized and rents floor space.
