Those of you in California I take it you are familiar with a band known as the Royal Crown Revue?

They are coming to help celebrate John Dillinger Days here in Tucson later this month. How do you rate this band and would you recommend attendance?

I remember listening to some of their music when I was doing swing on a regular basis. They had some good stuff!!

Yes, they were cool back in the day. They were one of the first NeoSwing bands to get recognition. I still use one of their songs to teach single-time swing (but the name escapes me).

Neoswing is a bad label... most of the groups lumped into this category played a fusion of jump blues and rock... some of the more interesting ones touched on jazz, but mostly just be bop jazz stylings to that fusion of jump blues.

If you like East Coast Swing a lot of their music is great for that. They have a few songs that work for WCS and Lindy.

RCR is a good band, yeah they are good, they were one of the first to hit it big back i nthe day and paved the way for alot of people in the late 80's (89 to be exact), "Drawing from collective roots in Southern California punk, rockabilly, East Side R&B and NYC street corner doo wop, the two began experimenting with a hybrid of roots styles, creating original music that drew its inspiration from the past, but was firmly placed in the present (and unknowingly) the future!"- www.rcr.com
I reccomend you there for more info about the band. I liek them always have and you can do "all types of swing" so their music. I hely encourage you to go and see them if they are comming to your town. You won't forget it.
p.s.- I have a sister that lives in tuson,.. small world

Appreciate the info. :D

I won't be able to attend this event due to medical reasons, but will pass this on to the local dancers here.

While on this subject and again in particular to those in California especially the L.A. area are you familiar with Kyle Bronsdon?

Kyle was the drummer for a local swing and jazz band known as the KGB Trio which played at many of the swing dances here. He moved out to L.A. and I believe he has a band there and has since released a CD.
