View Full Version : I need a Latin Dress.... NOW (Dancing May 3rd)
Can't be a lycra overseas number - has to be very nice. My conditions are:
1. Cannot be red
2. Cannot be black
3. Cannot be white
4. Cannot be animal print.
Why? Can't be red because I was filmed in the red dress last night. Can't be black or white because it just doesn't look that great when filmed for television (unless very professional, like DWTS for example.) Can't be animal print, as another dancer will be wearing a Latin costume with animal print.
If anybody has any leads, please post! I will even rent at this late date.
Thank you!

All of the dresses I have are red, black, or white, so I'm afraid I'm of no help. Good luck!
Have you tried any of the online rental places? Depending on how busy the weekend is in terms of comps, you may be able to get something last minute.
Quick! Buy a bra, panties, some rhinestones, and napkins! :D
Unfortunately I can't help either: both of my Latin dresses are black . . .
Are there any dance stores around that stock practise wear? With some added stones or fringe or whatever accessories you may have, you could certainly make that work.
Good luck!
LOL BM I might do that. ;D *runs to Bed Bath and Beyond and Victoria's Secret*
You may not even go to Bed Bath & Beyond. I haven't been into Victoria's Secret recently (I'm beyond broke right now :(), but whenever I've gone in with ballroom friends, there is ALWAYS something on at least one of the mannequins that will cause one of us to say, "Oooooooooh I just found my new Latin outfit!!." Given your current sense of urgency, I might actually seriously consider it, but I would definitely have to stone whatever I bought to death: I wouldn't want my audience thinking "Is she actually just wearing a VS get-up??" ;)
I'm keeping my extremities crossed for you!

And it comes in different colours! :D
That's pretty PG for them. The stuff I've seen on the mannequins could easily pass for burlesque theatre wardrobes sometimes. If nothing else works out, at least you've got a back-up (might want to check with the see-through factor on it before dancing under lights with it, though . . .)! ;)

I have more pics of the yellow latin dress from the original seller on my Hotmail account, but Hotmail is being really dodgy right now and I can't log in
I love the yellow one - however, yellow doesn't like me . . . oh well!

oooh i really like the yellow and pink ones :) and123 are you selling those?
Wow actually I like all of those.
I might like to buy one, lol! Are those dresses posted online somewhere?

Yellow one can be loaned (MQ already asked! :)) and the pink one is for loan or sale. I assume you mean the golden yellow and not the blinding screaming yellow two-piece.

Nah, they're all part of my insane collection. Many I'm willing to sell, and some are for loan only. I probably should put an archive of pics online somewhere. At the moment they're all sitting on a USB drive.

I have removed the "drape" in back but still have it, and also added more substantial cuppage in the bra area. I would say the last 3 pics are truest to color. It's a very warm yellow (mango?). The stones are crystal AB, fire opal, and sun.

You know, the year Lacey Schwimmer and her partner won the youth open latin at NDCA nationals in Utah, she wore a dress from Victoria's Secret- and everyone was asking her who designed it.

Oh wait- Idk if she wore this dress at nationals b/c of the dress code, but I know she wore it at some big comps that year:

<miniscule hijack> Ugh, just looked at MIT pictures, and I definitely need a new Latin dress. Granted, I have one that's in the works, and I am not competing again until June the earliest, so I won't have to run to Victoria's Secret :p </miniscule hijack>

I like your Latin dress. It's very elegant. Maybe it just needs a little ZIP, like accessorize the tails, cuffs, and collar. I'm thinking add some sort of color or pattern on the collar, and continue it down to the tail in the front (maybe passing through the cleavage along the way), and work the color/pattern around the open back and down to the tail in the back (via the buttcrack).
Or heck, just slap a few octopuses on it :p

Nice colour, but I think octopuses are better for eating than decoration! :D
I like the dress too, but you're right: it needs something. After looking at the pictures, I may try to take in the sides, because I sort of look like a weird rectangle now (I've been graced with a lovely hourglass figure, if I do say so myself). With any luck, the new dress will be ready before UConn next year ;)
Oh, and I think I ended up meeting you sort of at Holy Cross? You wore the snake-skin-like dress for Rhythm, no? I'm sorry I didn't say anything: I am remarkably shy when I am not 100% sure of a person's identity  Next time I'll say hi if that was in fact you!

Yeah, that was me. It's OK - I was in a crappy mood myself b/c my partner was being a horse's posterior . You were the one painting your nails at the table, right?
So.... Me -- Did you find a latin dress yet?
So far, no dress. I have a few online leads so I'm hoping one of those work out. But I am open to any suggestions.
I was hoping to work with a local dressmaker but so far have heard nothing back yet. I was really hoping to give him my business but this is a costume emergency so if I don't hear back I'm just going to have to go with something else.
I am almost to the point of using stragetically placed napkins, a fancy bra set from Victoria's Secret, and a bunch of rhinestones.
Is there anything you can borrow from a coach or local studio? Another option might be to grab something off E-bay. Rainbow Shiu & Acapulco Paradiso may have something. Not the best quality, but for in a pinch, it might work.
Unfortunately I know nobody I can borrow from. The ladies I am acquainted with take from a 'rival instructor' who would most assuredly give them a miserable time if they helped me, especially since he will be performing at the same event.
I bought this on Ebay today - It's black, which is a no-no for TV and I cannot use it on May, but it is very nice actually. It also comes with matching cuffs - as the belt and neck cuff are not attached to the dress, perhaps I can get creative and add them to a dress of a different color. At any rate, I've seen other pictures of this dress and $177 is a STEAL, especially with all of the very very heavy stoning on the belt and neck piece.

I am still looking for dresses, so if anybody is selling, please post!
The local dressmaker has still not gotten back to me. :(
Will try to sort through our club's costume box this week, if I have time. What size-ish are you? Since it's our club's inventory, I can't make any promises (yay for having to jump through hoops), but I will see what I can do.

Spray paint it. I'm only half-kidding! It could work. That belt sure is killer . My yellow one is still available to borrow if you run into problems.

oooh, I just took a closer look at that. It's black stretch lace. Surely you could paint the lace, and/or change the color of the bodysuit underneath. Hmmmm....
