View Full Version : an interesting on2 experience
In my attempt to become a more versatile salsero I have tried to get used to dancing on2. Normally what happens is I can start out on2 but very quickly fall back to into on1. Last night the opposite happened, for some reason breaking on2 seemed more natural during a particular song, about halfway through I noticed I was on2, in fact I even tried to get us back on the one but I couldn't the music was telling me to break on2. I just thought I would share that experience.

Hey Vin, when I dance to mambo based on either 2/3 or 3/2 son clave (heavily associated with Puerto Rican or NewYorican bands), I find it hard to not dance on2 also.

Interesting . . . now that I'm taking some Salsa lessons, I've found that I don't have a problem with either the 1 or the 2. I've done the exact same thing . . . started out on 1 and about mid-way thorough the song/dance found myself on 2. Of course I stopped - mistake #1 (I never stop), said "I'm sorry! - mistake #2 (I no longer apologize), was glad the one-hour lesson was over - mistake #3 (I should have stayed and practiced more).
I know we've had some good debates on this subject.
It just feels easier to me on 2 because of the Cha Cha that I do breaks on 2.

Vince, I've always thought the same thing. I've seen on1 dancers cha cha breaking on2, then say to myself. How can they say they can't dance salsa on2 if they cha cha on2? I would think that if they can do it to cha cha they should have no problems doing salsa on2. Hmmm...

The "music" just seems to dictate it to me . . especially the count 2 . . . I'd rather being going forward on the upbeat count 2 than backwards . . . if that makes sense to you???
