Many Salsa Events give lifetime achievement awards. Some very deserving and some just an outrageous travesty. Now we all know the obvious candidates that are deserving like Tito Puente, and Celia Cruz, however, who would you consider NOT a candidate that has received one and why?

Milli Vanilli, they didn't play any salsa. Awards should be limited to salsa artists. They should have never won new artist of the year!
I'm sorry I just had to. I'm in goofy mode this morning.

Hmm. Who shouldn't have received awards is one way to look at it. But then, whenever there are awards, there are folks who disagree with the results. Pretty negative, if you ask me.
Why not focus on the inspirational people like Tito Puente or Celia Cruz, who won and deserved such awards, may they rest in peace? Or, even better, on inspirational salseros and salseras out there who are unsung heroes?
Thoughts, anyone? Any inspirational people out there?

My question is really to see what criteria should there be, and is there some who you may feel do not fit that criteria. Sure we have some that we may have opinions on but are there some who just do not meet any criteria that make a sham of this award? This is a hard question as one tends to want to be politically correct and not name names. I understand that.

Lifetime Achievement Awards should be given to those who have dedicated a significant portion of their life to the artform in question as well as made a significant impact on the artform, whether it be directly or indirectly (an example James Brown, an artist who made significant developments in the form or Barry Gordy, a producer who developed a large number of talented artists and helped shaped the sound of R&B).
Being famous, or having connections should not be enough. A lifetime achievement award in my mind should not generally be given to someone who people would think of questioning their deserving status. It is one thing to think someone else should have recieved the award first, but the acomplishments of the person should be pretty undeniable with anyone with a degree of honesty.

I guess it depends on the producers of the particular event and who
the followers are...
Each event will no doubt be led by a producer/s who will set up
their own criteria.
I know that in the Premios Globo our LAA were given to:
Paul Anka
Don Francisco
Rafael Pineda
At different times of course...
But each one has contributed in different areas in very big ways
however, it all depended on what we were actually looking for...

I'm not sure where you're going with this Isaac?
Are you asking us to say something negative about someone?
It would be much better to talk about people who deserve them than people you would NOT give an award, so let's do that in this thread.
Are we talking purely about musicians, or dancers too?

D'Nice, I think you hit the nail on the head. I agree with you completely and could of not said it better. As far as Dance Mentor goes, I have not mentioned any names nor has anyone else. If I or anyone does, it is what a forum is about I thought. Positive or negative. I appreciate if you do not change my question. We are not putting anyone down. This has been brought up in other areas so I thought I would do the same here. You really need to chill out. :D

I'm cool, Isaac. :D
Why don't you take the lead since this is your topic.
Who do you think should NOT get such an award?
Or are we not naming names?

I am not going to name anyone, as I do not want to be any more contraversial on this forum than I am. However, I would like to hear if anyone else may feel that there are some they know should not deserve such a recognition without naming anyone if they don't want to. :D

Anyway, if this is getting too hot and heavy for everyone, I am willing to let this die.
