You go to five dance classes a week and come home exhausted, but the first thing you want to do is practice .

I was at a party on Saturday, feeling exhausted I told the host I just need to go home and snooze for about an hour and come back. What do I do when I get home, I reviewed a dance video, did about an hour and 30 mins dancing, took a shower and came back to the party energized.

You know you are addicted to dancing when...

you're in church and notice that so many of the hymns are Waltzes

Too funny. My sister is part of the worship team at my church and I usually sit in the front. She told me, "Everytime you raise your hand in worship, I expect a "New Yorker" coming, can you please stay in the back?. I've also started to count the beats.

1 - You plan your social life around it (including missing your tv shows that aren't recordable)
2 - You plan your vacation to make sure you don't miss any dance events
3 - You start decorating your car with a customized dance license plate or stickers
4 - You hear a song and immediately your feet move of their own accord when at the grocery store or in other public places
5 - When you're looking for a significant other, you start to check off ones that can't dance or at least appreciate it
6 - You've gone to the cheap hussy stores to find appropriate ballroom/WCS outfits, even if you wouldn't be caught dead wearing it anywhere else
7 - Orange skin starts to not look so bad
8 - You consider a second job in order to make all the conventions and take privates
9 - You've friended all the pros possible on facebook just to see what they're up to
10 - You search youtube for any videos possible and spend hours watching and attempting to recreate the moves and styling

You buy your children their Holiday dresses, get home and suddenly realize "Hey! I've got 20 gross of Swarovskis that would match that PERFECTLY!!! Now where'd I put my E-6000??"

You are SERIOUSLY addicted to DANCING when you've done International Folk Dancing, Traditional Contra/Square dancing, ballet, jazz, clogging, English Country Dancing, Irish Set dancing, Scottish Country Dancing, Modern Western Square dancing (including at the Advanced and Challenge levels), Round Dancing, Belly dancing (extra points if you are a male), Scandinavian Turning dancing, Irish Caeli dancing, Ballroom, Latin, Swing, Country & Western Line, pattern and freestyle dancing....

OK, I haven't done C&W Pattern dancing (yet, and just barely freestyle), nor modern, tap, Irish Step dancing, Sufi dancing, probably a few others.

Me too, I had dislocated my knee and tore the ligament... was on full leg brace and crutches for a couple months, but since I was an officer in the dance group I kept coming to class. My teacher had to literally "command" me to sit on the chair and not try to dance early. I got so impatient!

Yes, a shopping cart is especially good for practicing rumba walks as well as open breaks. I also like to do twist turns and (solo)pivots while maintaining a consistent distance from the cart.

The broomsticks on the cleaning supplies aisle also make excellent partners! :)
I am soooooo glad I read this because now I don't feel so weird. I usually go to Walmart at midnight to do my shopping and practice Rumba walks down the aisles regardless of who is watching. Also, at this time of night the Walmart staff is usually restocking the shelves so there are lots of obstacles in the way....GREAT for practicing floorcraft!

Hang in there Fasc.

If it takes a selfish pleasure to make it through rough times, it aint' nobodys business if you do...(and there are much more destructive ways to indulge those selfish pleasures than dance! So sorry you couldn't make it to Indy though).

And you are right- we all have our reasons for doing (or wanting to do) every little thing we do, whether it makes sense to anyone else or not. And it doesn't matter, as YOUR reason is the only one that counts.

Now go forth and (pity) party on if you need.

It feels uncomfortable not to stand up straight.

You view monetary amounts in terms of lessons. (e.g. God, those shoes are cute, but that is like 2 lessons!!! or, I made so much money today... I made 6 lessons!!)

You off-handedly use terms like "comp" and "stoned" around your non-dance friends and don't understand when they look at you funny.

You don't have any non-dance friends.

When your ring tone and morning alarm tone is Matthew Morrison's cover of 'Sway'

When with every musical number in Glee, you start choreographing in your head a Standard or Latin number (Lady Is A Tramp, River Deep Mountain High)

When Bryan Watson or Derek Hough or Malitowski/Leunis is the one on your laptop wallpaper.

Yes, when you realise most of the hymns in church are waltzes.

When you practice salsa shines and ronde chasses under the table WHEREVER you happen to be seated with your feet under a table.

When every time you have to step back and step elsewhere to prevent yourself from bumping into someone you realise you just subconsciously executed a checking action.

When every time the motorcycle sways or jerks, one arm executes the corresponding Latin arm styling action.

When you point your foot just because you're getting off a bus onto a considerably lower sidewalk.

When you execute the arm styling for paso doble bota fogos everytime you get up from a chair you've been sitting in for hours and stretch...

I could go on and on and on...

When you are literally jumping around the house because you haven't danced all weekend. even though your husband just got home from a business trip. So you strap on your shoes and drill in the hallway!

Also, you post on DF for dancing at the location for the THREE DAY business trip you have to go to. Sigh.

apart from food, every single day you have to think of how, when, for how long you are going to dance that day, or when you are not going to, you just keep doing dance-related things all day long...or when dance puts you to sleep...either your dance posters or your dance books or your dance tape from yesterday's lesson...dance what a nice word...

You spend several months going through DT's from dance, only to go dance once then have to spend several more months going through DT's. I miss ballroom but I work during every possible lesson/social.

I guess it would be more accurate to describe them as involuntary dance spasms in completely inappropriate places based on the music that's playing. It certainly never happened to me while I was dancing every day.

I suspect a lot of us have that. Not sure it's always related to withdrawal though.

It's only been a year for me...I sincerely hope it's one of those incurable diseases...
