Hi, folks. I'm finally back dancing after almost 18 months!!!!! Is fabbo to be back, but thought I'd share this link with fellow salsaholics. It's a cute, beginner's guide to salsa I helped create. It's a bit rough and way too fast, but we've had some good feedback from beginners who were too scared to go to classes or a studio. They're practicing in front of their computers the going to classes when they feel more co-ordinated and confident. It's a new age, I tell ya! :)

welcome back!
I'm wondering...is that song a salsa or can people do samba to it?

That song definitely has samba rhythm. :)
Welcome back!
I can see wanting to have music that a lot of people already know, and Shakira is certainly known world-wide.
I also like how professional the sound and video quality are on the clip. The instructions (while quite basic) should give at least a taste to those too afraid to take real classes like you mention.

Hi I'm trini and I started latin dance in January 08. So far I've done a little of salsa, rumba, cha cha and merengue. I love cha cha but somehow I just don't feel the same with salsa. I just don't have the high energy for salsa. I don't know if you understand what I mean. I know the steps but right now i'm trying to improve on how i execute them. I get rumba and merengue. I think what I need to know is what is the story behind salsa? What do the dancers communicate when they dance? What is their language? Perhaps by knowing this I may come one step closer to conquering this stagnant period in salsa. What do you reccommend I should do to solve my problem? Your advice here will be gladly appreciated:)

hello trini, and welcome to DF. Perhaps your question might be better answered as a thread in the main part of the salsa forum?
Again, welcome to DF!

BY the way now the link does not work. It is not a persistant url, so when you get to the website you need to do a search for "salsa dance". Basic yes. Anything that encourages people to dance salsa is good.
I must say, however, that the "put your hand up so she knows she needs to turn" instruction of basic salsa lessons is the one thing that really irritates me. There my pet peeve is out.
