I wonder if this has ever happened to some of you...

I had been thinking about going dancing all week...a three day weekend, so Sunday night was time to get out there and dance until Monday morning. Everytime I've been out dancing recently its gotten better and better...I was so looking forward to this evening.

Spent the day travelling to visit my family - rushed back 100 miles to get home and then got ready in record time. In about 30 minutes I'm blazing down the freeway sporting a fresh shave, some nice threads and when I get to the club I'm full of vigor and ready to dance.

The lesson didn't go well...I just couldn't keep up and I found myself losing interest. Then as the dancing starts...my mind is so ready...but my body just doesn't want to respond. I decide to sit down a few...and then I realize that I'm barely able to stay awake!

It had been a long day - many hours in the car over country roads...and dealing with my family is always a stressful thing...but I couldn't believe how fast my body just seemed to turn off.

Suddenly I was exhausted, hungry (didn't eat much all day) and all I could think of was lying down and sleeping. I must have pushed myself too far and it just caught up with me...

I realized that I needed to rest...so I left and came home and am just about to hit the hay here.

Anyone else had this happen before? I just couldn't get my body to wake up tonight...at least I can rest up for the next dance... but my stars what a major bummer. :?

Best,

SG

dealing with emotional stress consumes a lot of energy. i can imagine your feeling drained even without a 200 mile round trip behind the wheel on top of it...

It happens to me for dance lessons, BUT not for dancing any more. I might be tired and not get stuff in the lessons, but once I'm dancing for the FUN of it I get energized!! So Tuesday salsa night I start dancing at ten and by 1/1:30 I am bouncing off the walls!! This happens no matter how tired I am. :)

I'm with you Sagitta, actually I can normally dance a couple of hours but towards the end of the night I am just too tired.

It has happened to me before, SG. But it takes weeks of pushing it too far before I get to that point. Either that, or some emotional upset in other areas of my life. Like yesterday, I had a very bad day for reasons unrelated to dance, and I couldn't bring myself to go to class at all. Too tired.

Normally, though, it takes me hours and hours of dancing for weeks in a row to need a break.

Hmm, thank you for the replies everyone. I think I may be coming down with a flu or something - but it was a combonation of many factors that led to me being burned out. I got quite a bit of rest last night but I'm still exhausted...I haven't been sleeping well for the past few weeks and sometimes we just need to rest up! So I'll listen to my body for now and prevent this from happening again. :)

Sagitta - had I been at a different venue I could have gotten up there and been rejuventated - but part of it was the energy of the group last night. I just couldn't jive with the group dynamic - whereas last time I went out dancing, I felt it very strongly.

Some days you have it, some days you don't. :D

Totally understand SG. The 80s disco night after the zydeco dance on saturday night resulted in me leaving early. Not many people got on the dance floor and sometimes there wasn't anyone!! Then most of the people on the dance floor were gay, and due to some past history I didn't want to ask any of them to partner dance. If I could partner dance I would have stayed longer!! :)
