I will be in Los Angeles for the next six weeks on a work assignment. I am from Toronto but travel for work a lot. So far I have danced in Boston and Minneapolis. Both times I easily found a listing of local clubs with good reviews and was able to locate a club that suited me well.

I am surprised to find an overall lack of quality information on LA clubs in my online searches.

Can anyone assist me in locating a club that's not too far from Culver City? I am trying not to rent a car this trip, as I think that driving in LA might be too confusing....

Anyways, can any locals recommend a good place for dancing - Friday, Saturday and Sundays...

Welcome to DF, Zephyr! There are quite a few dancers (& an instructor or two) from LA who post here on DF. I'm sure they can help you out!

I thought I answered this last week but I don't see my post.

First: You will probably need a car, LA is too spread out to get to the best spots by mass transportation, especially if you leave a club at 1 or 3am (Saturdays).

Saturdays you want to go to the Granada in Alhambra. It is about 15-25 minutes away from CC, depending on your exact starting spot. Dancing starts around 9pm and runs until 3am. There are always great dancers there between 1 and 3am, and you'll be amazed how many people stay until the end.

Sundays is Steven's Steak House, but that is also not close to you (more like 25-35 minutes, depending on your starting spot). It's also worth the drive.

Friday's I often take the night off, since I tend to dance Tue/Wed/Thu. The Granada does well on that night, and it's a different crowd than Sat. There are other clubs on Friday's, but others can give you better perspectives since I don't regularly go out that night.

My Blog has a link to a Google Map (so you can zoom in and out) that shows some of my favorite LA clubs and their locations. It's far from complete, because I just put the clubs I attend. Here is a link to that article. (http://www.unlikelysalsero.com/2007/04/my-favorite-la-clubs.html)

And BTW - Thursday is also a great night for Salsa if you can pull that off. I often start in Long Beach (Cafe Sevilla) and then go to Mama Juana's around midnight or so.

Contact me via e-mail if I can assist (via my blog).

Yeah, I'm not from L.A., but I'd agree... a car is pretty much essential there. And as someone that doesn't live there, I can tell you that driving is pretty easy. Their roads are very well marked, with excellent signage well in advance of the actual roads/exits.

It's true... The Granada isn't too bad, since you'll be on the 10 freeway, and take the Garfield exit, travel north around 2 miles and it's one block over.

Steven's is really easy, since it's a few hundred yards off the 5 freeway at the Atlantic exit.

Google maps (http://maps.google.com) is bookmarked on most people's browsers around here.

You'll want to consult it before you go anywhere... I've been here over 25 years and still check it out a few times per month.
