Hello.
Can anyone ID (song title, performer, album) the V. Waltz tunes in these two video clips? Warning: the clips are quite large.

I listened to the first one ... the piece is the title music to the movie "Practical Magic", by Alan Silvestri. It IS a wonderful Viennese Waltz!
After I return from our evening practice session, I'll check out the other clip.

The second one is from Edward Scissorhands.

And you finally make your presence known after coming back from Hawaii!! Welcome back. How was the trip? :)

our trip was great... everything from waterfalls, sunsets, yoodeling, boogie boarding and surf boarding, getting knocked down by humongous waves that steal your glasses and leave you blind! can't wait to go back...

Hello.
Thanks for the IDs. Followups questions:
(1) Is there perhaps a version of the Practical Magic theme not on the soundtrack--that is, a cover? The music in the clip is 25% faster and doesn't quite match the soundtrack's theme. This suggest that either (a) the original music was accelerated and looped, or (b) someone else later performed this number.
(2) To which track on the Edward Scissorhands CD does the song in clip 2 correspond?
Thanks,
Ronnen.

Ok ... there are two tracks on the "Practical Magic" CD ... both versions of the same piece, by Alan Silvestri. The theme called "Practical Magic" (track 12) ... and the version you heard in the BYU video, "Amas Veritas" (track 13). The second one is slightly faster.

Hello.
I've located audio files that purport to be
(1) Alan Silvestri-Practical Magic <http://coriolis.lbl.gov/~ronnen/share/vwaltz/PracticalMagic.mp3>
and
(2) Amas Veritas <http://coriolis.lbl.gov/~ronnen/share/vwaltz/AmasVeritas.m4a>
The first resembles but doesn't quite match the music in the video clip; the second is something completely different. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Ronnen.

Ronen ... I'm not sure what you are hearing when you listen to the Viennese Waltz video, but I've double checked it against my "Practical Magic" CD. It IS track 13 ("Amas Veritas") ... exactly. No modification ... used straight off the CD. Hmmm ... sorry.

Hello.
OK. Does the audio clip that I listed as (2) in the previous message match your track 13?

Ronnen ... I couldn't open
(2) Amas Veritas <http://coriolis.lbl.gov/~ronnen/share/vwaltz/AmasVeritas.m4a>
My computer apparently doesn't have the proper player program ... tried all the ones I have. But I did re-listen to the original video you posted. They are the same.

Ok, thanks.
FYI, the clip is AAC audio. You could play it with, say, iTunes.
Yours truly,
Ronnen.

Hello.
It turns out that there are two versions of the Practical Magic soundtrack. Tracks 1-11 are the same in both versions. However, in the first version, <http://www.towerrecords.com/product.aspx?pfid=1444497>, tracks 12 and 13 are "Convening the Coven" and "Maria Owens", both by the Michael Nyman Orchestra. In the second version (which you have), <http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=929449>, tracks 12 and 13 are "Practical Magic" and "Amas Veritas" by Alan Silvestri.
Hence I expect that sound files ripped from the first version were tagged with the CDDB ID3 tags belonging to the second version.
Thanks for your help,
Ronnen.

Mystery solved!
Ronnen ... after you mentioned two versions, I started doing some research. The version I have, is definitely the correct one (with the Alan Silvestri final 2 tracks). But I checked the links you posted, and indeed, you are correct ... 2 versions. So ... I dug deeper!
Here from the Movie Music U.K. Score Awards (University of Sheffield):
_______________
"THE GREAT REJECTED SCORES OF 1999 . . .
MICHAEL NYMAN's Practical Magic - A CD pressing with two cuts of Michael Nyman's work were actually released into stores before director Griffin Dunne threw it out at the last possible moment and got Alan Silvestri in to write a completely new score in about an hour and a half. Rarity-hunters should be aware that copies of the Nyman CD are now worth big bucks!

Interesting, isn't it! That's probably why you were looking at tracks 12&13, and thinking "what the h... is he talking about?" You must have one of these early versions.
I'll tell you ... if we only knew a portion of all the behind the scenes "stuff" that goes on in the motion picture industry!!!
