Have any of you noticed how weather effects dancing night? I've noticed that this deep freeze we're in here in New England is keeping the dancers away. Darn this New England weather!!

In Florida, it's the torrential rainstorms all summer long.

it's a shame although it is understandable-- especially if the weather produces dangerous driving conditions. :( I know the bitter cold takes it toll on my motivation to go outside for any reason however it has yet to make a serious impact on my dancing.

So, Boo, are you saying that my first night out in CT this semester may be sparsely attended? say it ain't so! at any rate, as long as I've got you, your beau, and the Hot Cat Jazz Band I'm happy :D

Hey!! The weather is pretty bad in upstate ny, but it only has adjusted my plans a bit. I won't drive an hour or more by myself to dances so fewer of them, but I still do quite a bit of dancing. :)

I think weather definitely has an impact on people coming out to dance, but perhaps it only applies to people who are new to dancing. I had a dance scheduled (the first at this venue) on Jan. 9th, and it was sparsely attended. That might have something to do with the fact that the high temperature (a record low for the high temp, by the way) that day was -7 farenheit. I think that is -35 celsius. And that was the high temperature, without taking the wind chill into account!

The people who did come out were already dance addicts, though.

Sagitta, what do you consider to be upstate New York? For me, "upstate" doesn't start until an hour or two north of Albany.

Actually where I live is more correctly referred to as central new york -- the fingerlakes region...ithaca, owego, trumanburg....about 4-5 hours drive from albany. Upstate to me is canton, odensburg....

I was born in the Ogdensburg hospital, and went to school in the town of Canton. How do you know that area?

SwinginBoo, are you going to attend that event known as the Boston Tea Party?

I saw the announcement for that on a local message board.

I've heard a little something about this. I want to go. When is it happening? Is the announcement on this board?

I know they have it on Swingmonkey

I think it's in March around the time of Reno Dance Sensation/DF family reunion (or is it just 'union'?)

I thought i was a dance addict in my previous dance life (don't dance no more but like to read the forum messages... ) but you guys are way more addicted than i ever were. Friends labelled me the dance addict since i danced 5 times a week at a stage when i didn't have a private instructor.
Dance does bring joy....... keep on dancing. :P :P :P

No, but my family lives there, and I drive by campus on a regular basis. I think there's a reunion this summer, though.

This is the SECOND week in a row that my Teusday night dance has been canceled because of the weather!! AArrggghhhhh! Why can't the storms come on Wednesday, or Monday even? I was really looking forward to it. I don't get out much-- can you tell ?

You should come out to this part of the country.

Rainy and cold at the moment, but tropical by comparrison to New England and it's not interferring with any of the dancing!

Sorry Swing Kitten
actually, the snow isn't that bad...
the weathermens hype seem to induce everyone to cancel and panic. This is the third time in a row that we have had significantly less snow than predicted, and all of my lessons cancelled for really no reason.

What have they said about this storm... 8 inches tonight and more snow in the next 5 days than we have had all winter. I see one inch so far in the past 8 hours. We will see.

Quiet SG! ... everyone likes to rub it in... eh, so would I if I could-- drat!

Larinda, what part of CT are you? It was pretty heavy for while. I got home and there was a one inch blanket of snow on my roommate's car-- I found out she had been home for half an hour.

Yes, the weather forecasters seem to enjoy freaking people out-- and they still get freaked out! why?

The last time they did this it was absolutely pathetic!

I still think it would have been fine to have the band play :?

We live in Manchester. Drove out to Tolland this evening on the highway, and it wasn't too bad. But now at 1:30 I went down the street to the store and I guess there is about 5 or 6 inches.

I would have taught today if everyone had not cancelled. I did not think it was too bad then, but I guess it is better to stay off the roads if you do't have to be out.

So what is this about you living in Storrs and Sacramento?
Steves Mom lives in Tolland and used to commute to Sacramento for two weeks at a time for work. Wacky people...

It's only about 80 here. Perfect spring weather -- lots of rain, but that's okay. The rest of this week is supposed to be 80 and sunny. Ahh! 8)

Hi Folks!

Since I'm from New England it seemed lodgical this thread would be a good place to post first. Been having some problems navigating though the site. Seems I keep having to retype in my username and password. The site was also telling me I couldn't post. Not sure what this is all about?

Still testing...

Ok...looks like my first post posted!

Regarding weather in New England...

Winter is winter. A snow storm would likely keep me home because of saftey concerns. But, very cold temperatures, no way! Besides, dancing keeps a person warm!

True New Englanders come to expect wintery weather right up to March 31st. But we all know what day comes after that ... so don't be fooled by snow in April either! :)

Love California . . . 88 degrees here yesterday . . . did a quick workout at 5:00 PM, then jumped into the pool - clothes and all.

I'm originally from the East Coast, and that's where I want to stay - "far away from!" No freezing snow, or rain, or black ice. No blizzards, no tornados, no typhoons, no hurricanes . . . oh, and in 29 years of living here . . . I've felt one earthquake.

It's snowy here in Central Scotland today. :(
The latest I've seen a snowfall in this area is May 1st; the earliest -- mid-October. Not that Scotland is a particularly snowy or cold country (honest!). It's just that we don't get summer.

No wonder Scottish country dance is so energetic -- you need it to keep warm, not just in winter but all year round. Explains why salsa is popular too. :)
