For teachers or studio owners out there...
What do you charge to teach classes/workshops in and outside of your area? Or, what would you pay for this? I know this may depend on location or experience. I have a B.A. in dance and over 10yrs. experience and am trying to settle on some rates. Any advice or insight would be helpful. Thank you so much.

Welcome dancingbarefoot!! I'm not an instructor, but the going rate in my area for salsa/swing/ballroom seems to be about 40 dollars for a 4 1 hour weekly sessions for a class. Then instructors have a discount if you bring in other students or if you join as a couple.

I charge $40 for a four week class that meets one hour each week. For full time students (high school/ college) I only charge $20 for the same class. If people repeat a class I also allow them to pay half price (students still pay $20). (I don't give couples discounts because people who don't trade partners are harder to teach and slow everyone else down.)
The local swing dance teachers charge $50 for six weeks.
The local competative teacher charges $12/hour for her drill classes. She's world-class, so well worth the money.
I don't teach outside my area, but would have to include fees to cover my travel time.

It completely depends on your location. What do other dance teachers in your area charge. Charge about the same. Don't undercut others prices because eventually you will become successful, and long-term students won't like it if you raise your prices after the fact. Also, don't charge significantly more than other local teachers unless you are certain that you are significantly better than they are, and that casual students would be able to tell that you are better.
Interestingly enough my information must not be really clear. In the last couple of weeks I've had 2 separate people sign up for group classes expecting to pay $40 per hour, not $40 for four hours over 4 weeks.
