Does it happen to you that you will sit on a dance because you dislike the music?

I don't dance Tango, cause i really hate Tango rytheme, even thou as a dance it can be fun.

And i will site when they play slow Rock'N'Roll or , fast Slow dancing.

Of course it takes for all kind of dancing, even in a disco.

I'm engulfed by the music, not by the dance, i dance casue i like the music, does it differ for you :?:

It depends on my mood. There are times when I will dance to anything that comes my way. I have danced in church to hymns. (A more subdued version, but noticably more then anyone else around!!) That's the way it is for me.

For me, I will sit out really stupid corny songs no matter what the genre', I just can't stand bad music, period!

The only dances I really actively sit out are:

Quick Step (just dislike it with a passion)

Samba (only because I could never really get the hang of it)

Meringue (see Quickstep comment above)

Balboa (too corny for me)

You dislike the dances not the music if i understand correctly :?: Its not like my case with Tango that i like the dance but hate the music:?:
I think a dance is more fun if its more difficult to get the hang, the higher the pain the better the gain 8)

The Archon,

Yes, by all means i will sit out some dances because i hate (well, as you said, dislike) the music. Well, i don't like quickstep, never been able to get the hang of it. Others, i have to dance, like Am Waltz, because i am a Waltz fanatic, i like the music and the dance. I did not like WCS at the beginning because it was too different for me, today i really like it, because it is different. Then the hustle and merengue are just fun dances, sort of playtime on the dance floor. I dance because of the music.

That's interesting. I tend to sit out dances because I hate the dance (like hustle uggh! ) But even when the music is bad, hey. Dancing is dancing.

There are some really awful ballroom CD's out there, I must admit. *shrug*

The music or song is what makes me want to dance. Even Salsa which is my favorite dance, I will sit out if I am not moved by the song. Some song just don't make me wanna move.

For me it's the music that makes the dance. I've contemplated not competing because the classic ballroom music is rather boring to me. I swear at the last comp I watched they hadn't updated the music since 1958! However, I've never listed to tango music but I love the dance. Did you know you can dance a tango to Pink Floyd's - Another Brick in the Wall.

Dancing is just the body, music is the soul.

I'll have to pull out my Pink Floyd and try it. I guess it depends on who's running the comp. The last comp I went to, honest to Pete, they played serious rock for all the swing heats. I loved it, but you should have seen moer conservative people trying to keep up. Too funny.

You have other ideas for Tango like Pink Floyd ? I should extrect medrate force on the dance room D.J to put those, cause i really cant dance those boring tango songs!!! But its really hard for me to imagine how to dance Another brick... with tango, but i will try.

BTW i think so many songs today in clubs fits cha cha rytheme that when i hear a dance song that fits, i just pick the nearest partner and starts dancing cha cha, even thou all the other just jumps around...

That's true, TheArchon. There are a lot of cha chas out there in popular music these days. And, surprisingly, a few sambsa too. Just because your out dancing in a disco or club, doesn't mean to have to jump around, as you say, or just freestyle.

I've discovered that too. So, I like clubbing more. :) I love experimenting, incorporating different dance styles into one dance, and what better place to do it with partnered dancing then where there isn't any partnered dancing style being done? :)

A lot of music coming our (rock and alternative) is pretty easy to apply dances too. Cha Cha, Swing, Rumba are obviously the core but tango's fit in on occasion.

Like I said before the tango is a great dance but I've never been exposed to the music so it doesn't effect me emotionally like I want it too. So I find dark or deep rock music works well, hence Pink Floyd. With the tango I find you generally slow it down and make it deliberate it looks pretty cool.

The White Stripes and Sam Roberts make for good Cha Cha's.
Jet & REM come to mind for Swing
Rumba is any sappy power ballad.
