I see, thanks!!
so who might be attending this year?

We will be attending - absolutely. This regional has in the past fit into our schedule and have attended it for many years. I was sad to see it being replaced with Baltimore even though Baltimore is much closer to us.
The organizer is such a charm that we will attend to support a well run and friendly regional for the last time. I hope anyone who can, will attend this last regional for Atlanta.

No its USA Dance Regional competition (aka national qualifier) for the Southeastern US.

I'll be there dancing Champ Latin and Champ Standard if my partner can come. If not, I'll probably still go and wing it with a girl that needs a partner in Silver/Gold Smooth and Rhythm.

I registered us so most likely will see you there :)
It's not moving to DC permanently. It's in DC next year (or is it the year after?) with an option for 1 (or is it 2?) more years. After that, it may return to Atlanta, or some other chapter could put in a bid for it. Who knows?

Would imagine it will be substantially larger in DC?
Any idea if the format will be more typical of USA Dance comps - for example, no mandatory dinner package?

Of course I dont know the workings of these types of things, but it seems kind of silly to have the "southeastern" regionals held up north. If they can't be in Atlanta, they should at least be in the southeast. Seems unfair to the region in general.... :(

Here's a map showing the regions

So while DC/VA/MD is near the upper end of the defined Southeast region, it is still within the region. Historically any chapter within the region can put in a bid to host the regional. I would hate to see that practice change.

Interesting! I guess maybe the dance world is smaller down in this area [versus up north] so they made our region larger? It just seems funny to a southerner to have DC/VA/MD considered part of the southeastern region. lol! :)

Maryland is the northernmost tip of what's considered Region VI (Southeast). I really feel like participation in the Region VI regional will be much higher having the competition further north. Though personally I'd prefer to see it in NC

Oh I'm sure the participation will be higher....its probably all good...
In my little brain, however, its not a good thing because I had fun working at it and watching it and now it wont be around anymore...:(
Dance has been the only thing that constantly tempts me to move to other parts of the country...

This was helpful in more ways then one . . .
until now, I had considered the San Francisco - LA commute for Regionals as a long distance. I'd better never say that again after looking at the new SE commute!

Hmm...that would be a nice thing to do when my parents are gone (too close to them now to move that far away and will need a diversion when that day comes anyway).....

anp73ga31, could you, or anyone in the know, please PM me with contact info for this comp.'s organizers? My partner and I are planning to compete* and I have some questions. Neither the email on the comp website nor the one I tried for the host club seems to be working. :(
*Our first competition! Cue gleeful squealing/nervous breakdown!
Many thanks!
DancinProf, the printable entry form has a phone number you can call.

I used it a couple days ago and my message bounced back. I'll either try it again or take wooh's suggestion and call them.
Am I the only one who has practically given up phoning and does everything possible by email?
Thanks, y'all!

Thanks for the feedback

We are dancing the Friday evening session, smooth and standard, and then novice on Saturday...
I am a bit fustrated that my new smooth gown will not be ready for this comp.... The designer's wife had a baby last week with a few minor complications. I just found out today that it will not be ready and I am trying to figure something else out.
We never stayed for the dinner on Saturday night, and champ comp.... This year we plan to attend. Does anyone know what the dress is? Is it formal like the NDCA comps or more casual?
Jan, they were looking for you tonight!:(
Husband and I went to spectate. Ugh, traffic was horrendous getting there. Apparently a Rascal Flatts concert going on at Phillips Arena right nextdoor. And my little sis is a fan of theirs, but since she's in another state, I'll just say that Atlanta area Rascal Flatts fans are crappy crappy drivers. And do really idiotic things like get in and out of their cars multiple times in front of the venue, which makes no sense.
But a fun night. It's amazing how few Atlanta people do SRC. But then again, it's amazing to me how few Atlanta people do am-am.
From what I hear, traffic in the ATL is always horrendous. :)

Went to SRC on saturday night...enjoyed all the general dancing (we danced beforehand, between heats, and afterwards until the WCC kicked us out at 12:00). :D Had a great time except for we were disappointed in the latin results. No offense to the couple who won(because they WERE terrific), but we thought Luca and Efrosyni from MIT should have won. The other couple had two main moves that they seemed to do in every single dance; her split between his legs and her backbend across his knee. Now I am no latin expert, but it just seemed kind of odd that they did those two moves in pretty much every dance. I guess the judges like splits and bends more than they like samba rolls, variety and movement around the floor. I dunno. Just my un-expert opinion on what I saw.
On the plus side, do you realize how many stones fall to the floor at these comps? I may look like a homeless man rumaging thru a trash can, but I sure can gather alot of stones by walking around the room and next to the floor. :D
IMO, the judges must have been on crack when judging the Latin and Standard finals. ESPECIALLY the latin.

Yes, we had some flight issues. Our flight out was cancelled so we did not arrive until late Friday night and missed our Friday entries. But hey, at least the flight they rebooked for us was 1st class seats at thier cost!! Anyway, I always love going to Atlanta to dance at this comp.
They had a great practice floor set up. It had to be at least 3/4 the size of the comp floor... That was so great.

The practice floor at SRC looked to be bigger than the comp floors at Hotlanta. Sad SRC is leaving after this, I'd have dragged husband to compete at it next year just for fun if it was still here. Sure won't travel to DC for it.
Funny thing I noticed looking at the program. The SOUTHeast regional comp will be in DC. The NORTHcentral regional will be in Tennessee. I know about the maps and all that. But ironic that DC is considered south and Tennessee is considered north!

Well, aside from the fact that the central part of the country is not as far between north and south as the East Coast, ever heard of the Mason-Dixon line? ;)
