So, imagine a scenario where you can pick one, and only one dance to perform. What is the first dance that comes to mind?

For me, it's the La Bomba. Such a powerful Tango choreography, so nuanced, and so complex. It's the dance that convinced me that New Vogue was the best dancesport style of all, and has been my favourite dance ever since.

I confess to knowing nothing about what La Bomba is, but I like your Einstein quote.

West Coast. But waltz is a close second.

If I have to chose from the ones I can actually DO now? Uh....it's really close between cha cha and Viennese waltz, but I would probably give the nod to Viennese.

Of all the ballroom/dancesport dances out there? The one I have always wanted to learn, since the first time I ever saw dancesport on TV, long before I ever thought I'd be capable of doing ANY of it, is Paso Doble. I had seen the dancing on PBS while on my first undergrad internship (in retrospect, thank God for the hotel TV having only twelve channels and that was the least-boring thing on) and while I didn't understand a THING about what I was watching, all I knew was Paso was the most amazing thing I had ever seen ever and if I were ever enough of a non-klutz I wanted to do it.

I would have to pick a dance that I can do all night. I think that measures the appeal and the versatility of the dance for me. That dance has to be west coast swing! The diversity of the music you can dance it to is key to it being my favorite:)

Singular favorite dance would have to be (American) Viennese Waltz, but don't think Id have the endurance to do it all night.... American Foxtrot would be a close second

yes, neil...yes...but I think I could all night...truly this is such an unfair question b/c my real answer would be any smoooth or standard dance except QS.....but man, I am so bad that I am nearing just "anydance"

I don't have a single favorite dance as my favorite dance really depends on what music is being played at the time. If I like the song and it's a foxtrot then foxtrot is my favorite. But, if I don't like the song and it's a foxtrot then I don't like foxtrot.

I find that if I don't care for the song my pro is playing in our lesson I don't dance as well as when he plays a song I like. I get into the feeling of the music and that really helps my body move.

Mine varies week to week by what I'm doing best at at the time, as a huge part of the enjoyment to me is if it's something I'm good at. Right now, tha'ts definitely Rumba. That's where I have best technique, best lead, know most steps, etc.

I freak out when my pro tries to get me to sing with him!

Hmmm, my coach sometimes tries to get me to sing as a way of phrasing the dance we're working on. But I digress.

Foxtrot is a lovely dance.

Most of my training has been latin/rhythm but I am transitioning to smooth, and I would have to say waltz.

WCS (with a particular leader) would be a close second.

I get into the feeling of the music and that really helps my body move. This is why I bring my own music to lessons. (Speaking of which, I've got to put together my playlists for today's lesson.) I'm the same way.

I freak out when my pro starts singing (I tell him not to quit his day job ).Mine won't anymore. He sang something once, and because of what it was, I haven't let him forget it. Now I give him a hard time about it.

Hmmm...I'm pulling a DP with all these separate posts. Oh well.

Single favorite dance? Argentine Tango, of course.

It's the only one I'd ever perform, and be completely OK with. So long as it wasn't a choreographed routine, but just walk out and do a lead-and-follow performance.

I hope that means he hasn't heard anything.it has worked the opposite for me...I didn't even know I was singing until he told me...btw, reminds me our church contemporary choir CD comes out this week and I am featured so I want to order some of those for the relatives....note to self, unhighjack

Nothing. Period.

And the OP, IIRC, was asking about performance. I'd perform AT.

you know, I never think of it as performance, I dance at socials as I dance at comps, albeit smaller and with poorer leads (sorry)...but I do my best to give it my all within reason wherever I dance and so the perform or no element is irrelevant to me...it is all a pleasure...dying for lesson today

For social dancing, which is what we do. We like variety and if we could only do one dance, it would be a short night. We occasionally go to swing dances, were we do Foxtrot, East Coast, Single time and west coast. After about 1.5 hours we get bored with dancing these dances. With a full ballroom mix, we have danced for up to 5 hours and not gotten bored.
