I'm astonished that with so many dancers there is no discussion of clothes. I tried this before but I think it was too specific (just dance practice). So here is your outlet for your outlet designers, home made tutus, toe separators, guchi silk knickers, latin nothings, pasties, - in all anything your skin can sport (yes, tatoos and the nude look is fine too). But mostly, just what you happened to put on when the light was out and your SO was sleeping.....
I suppose we have to eep it wholesome - but please push the limit!! (see Fascination I did try, well sort of...).
Today I am wearing blood red slacks, a red-white striped fitted top and dark blue ear rings ....

We're working on it. We are up to chocolate shaped gerkins and gerkin shaped cucumbers - but the creme-de-la-creme, the bees knees, the real high five - the cucumber shaped chocolate may yet be a few years off.
Anyone know where those gods went off to? Probably searching for the mythical chocolate shaped cucumber...

I'm impressed!!! Although I wasn't specifically talking about not dancing in combat boots. My BDUs can be pretty constricting and warm. I HAVE danced in my flight suit, though (and have done the 'dead bug' and 'carrier landings' and all that other officer club bar goofiness.)

I think I danced at few times in BDU pants and the brown t-shirt when I got to the studio and realized I hadn't brought a change of clothes... at least sweating is "allowed" in BDUs unlike all other uniforms.... And at all the dinning outs I always wished the mess dress was properly tailored for dance, but alas the shoulder construction is even worse that an off the rack suit/tux jacket

OMG, you should try dancing in the mess dress SKIRT!!! (For those of you who have no idea what this is, the mess dress is a military uniform that is worn to very formal functions. The skirt is a floor length narrow skirt with a slit on one side to the knee.) Whoever designed that piece of uniform should be placed before a firing squad!!!

Yes, the first one never took off (or should I say came into fashion?) and I was wondering why considering how appearance conscious this group is but maybe its as you say, people are spent. But I suspect not - that there is a lot of interesting dressing in the day to day wear - and the early responses seem to bear that out, whether its coordinated outfits or battle fatigues - it sure is interesting!

Well, its all about care-giving I think. When you have a child (and a job) there is no time for anything - not even personal hygene let alone primping so everything goes out of the window. However, when that child finally leaves home you get to indulge in self stuff simply because you became more efficient - not to mention the sea of time available when you escape from a, shall we say, destructive relationship. So, yes, I do spend some time on myself - and as you get older you really do need to, especially if you are going to keep up something so visual as competetive dance (which I am sure will resonate with many here).
Come to think of it, a thread for body and mind maintenance for the older competitor might not be a bad idea - except, of course, that few would admit it.....

I'm just more of the farm girl, throw something on that gets the job done, never managed to look put-together, never actually mindful of my body (oh the bruises/cuts/scrapes from the farm--my m.i.l.-to be thought I was self-injurious), type. Runs in the family...my mom is the same way.

Oh...custom robe...that sounds awesome. I love the one I've got (and it was a gift from DH, besides), but I hate the full-length sleeves. And it's terry...nice in winter, not so nice in summer. Very jealous now. (Yes, I've looked into classes on how to sew...none fit my schedule. Gave up.)

if you used to be pretty good at it, you're already way ahead of me. i sewed a couple baby blankets & some rag dolls 20 years ago, but that's it. never sewed any clothing, not even for kids. taking on the task of sewing a showcase dress was just ridiculously foolhardy. it's hanging in my studio right now & have gone a few times to look at it to confirm that it really does indeed look like a dress & not a cave-man throw. am amazed each time i look at it.
i now can't wait to try my hand at practice wear of all sorts! the thought of that totally turns me on...

that's nice... was it longish or regular somewhere-around-the-knee dress length?
around the knee...I have about 5....and for some very odd reason they are the only things in which I ever recieve compliments from either pro or dh so there must be something to them....in fact there is one in particular that seems to really have the mojo for me with both of them...it is bizarre...particularly since neither are prone to compliments...

gotta get outa these hideous blue stretchy drawstring shorts & into some nice work garb... cute top, tho... wonder what these sleeves are called... "princess"? kinda poufy til the upper shoulders, then they become tight to the wrist. nice wide scoop-neck, light teal with some vine-y, flowery celery-green screenprinting on it.
yah, i know... who cares. but i love this top. wonder if i could make a bunch like'em.

Yet Another Inverview...this time I wore my "I is serious teacher. This is serious outfit" clothes, ie a brown herringbone skirt, tan longsleeve cotton shirt, with my gold Navajo bear earrings and my carved mammoth ivory whale charm on its leather cord. Very earth tone. (The mammoth ivory comes from a First Nations art store in Stratford.) And my "I should know better but they look cute" two-inch brown Mary Jane heels.
