That "Big Dance" of the NFL is taking place this Sunday. For those with an interest who do you want to/think will win?
I'm going with the Patriots.

Funny... SD laughs but neglects to answer ... I suppose if I really cared I could find out easily enough-- but if I cared that much I would have know already...
... actually I did already ask the guys at work but I forgot what they had said....
Actually our Production Manager is planning a big super bowl party and I asked him who was playing and he didn't know!

Fine, fine, fine... it is the New England Patriots (AFC) vs. the Carolina Panthers (NFC)

In light of recent events it does seem fitting that the SB be won by a team called the Patriots.

Both teams have a hometown connection.
Rodney Peete went to the same high school that I did only years later and Tedy Bruschi played his college football here at the University of Arizona.

I'm going to have to tape it . . . I have a NC2S class to teach during the game that starts thirty minutes before the game starts.
No biggie . . . the Raiders are not playing . . . just two lucky wannabe teams

My only question to you Vince is how, after the season the Raiders just had, you can even look at yourself in a mirror and call the Pats wannabes.
Um, hello? It's the Pats second trip to the big show in three years! And, oh yeah, *they* won it when they were there last time too!

You sound just like a charger fan! No wait . . . you're from Boston???
The Raiders had:
Many on injury reserve . . .
They called in sick . . .
Had no coach to "speak of" . . .

I have to go with the patriots. I was in downtown Boston the year they won and it was amazing. I'm not a huge football fan, but there is a spot in my heart for the patriots. (must come from my fanatic father :? ) Anyways I'm having kind of a spoof on a superbowl party. My friend alison is coming up with her dog bonnie and we're going to have pizza and beer. (you would think this was funny if you realized that we're imitating guys and don't normally veg out on the couch with pizza and beer. Heck, I don't even like beer, lol. :P )

I've given up my superbowl hypocrisy and stopped watching all together.
Don't get me wrong -- I absolutely LOVE football, and when I was in high school and college, followed my favorite teams religiously. But now, I don't have time to follow the regular games. So when superbowl time rolls around, I have no idea who or what I'm watching. So I hang out near the snack bowls, if I watch at all. Sad, sad, sad.

I was just kidding on that one. My friend and former dance teacher literally painted his face (not at the game -- at work  ), attached team flags to his car, wore team colors for a couple weeks before and after the superbowl, and got tickets to the actual game. Then he gave us tales from the superbowl until we couldn't take it anymore. Tampa Bay fans are enthusiastic, to say the least.

I think that the patriots will win,but the NC panthers won't lose as badly as most people are predicting. I think that they played better in the playoffs then I expected, plus they have a pretty good defensive side. I always root for the underdogs, so I hope the Panthers win!! Something always a littel more exciting seeing that happen. :)

Enjoyed the half-time show (except for Kid Rock eww!) And what's the deal with Janet Jackson's breast? Doesn't she know she's old enough to be Justin Timerlake's ... um ... aunt?

Although I thought it to be one of the best "games" that I've seen, most of the ads were done in bad taste - hey, I had about ten young kids over? - and the half-time show was the worst I have ever seen.
Some of those ads would have been questionable even on late night tv.
It's obvious, since no station affiliates are scheduled (yet) for next year's super bowl broadcast , that future games are headed for pay-for-view, so they can air anything they want.
I think I've seen my last superbowl - what little of it I did see! ANd we all saw plenty!
NO one around this office is standing around the coffee pots or water dispenser discussing the game and comercials as we've done in previous years . . .

I would have hated it too, if I'd had little kids around watching. Oh, that's right, your son is twelve, right? Yikes. The commercials were in very bad taste, and, as I mentioned earlier, Janet Jackson baring a breast (almost) during the halftime show was quite a bit over the top, IMHO.
I like rap/hip hop music, so I actually enjoyed the rest of the halftime show. But the Janet/Justin thing was too much for me.

02-02-2004, 10:06 AM
Yeah! I was thinking back on the commercials I saw, and one stands out a toilet tissue one, that was extremely sexually suggestive.
So what did you do with the kids? Send them to the other room during commercials? Yikes.

We entertained and had everyone bring the young "guys" over, as they are really into football - we had a house full to say the least. All us dads play street football with, so we thought it would be fun.
I thought the commercials to be very inappropriate for this age group, yet it seemed that the commercials were aimed right at adolescent males.
I certainly believe that the JJ thing was premeditated . . .
Oh, don't get me wrong . . . I too love rap/hip hop (Janet and Michael Jackson music included), but I though this was "old" hip hop music . . . give us something new!!!
Maybe, because I had a two-hour private teaching NC2S, I was missing all the action and just miffed over not being able to watch. But I would rather dance than watch a football - even though I am a huge fan of football!

Yea, that one and many others, including the pizza delivery man one, and all the commercials for products that help men "get it up!"
No, as I said in the other response, I was not there for most of it, although we were on our dance floor and made several trips in and out to see what was going on. Our son and onother came running out to tell us about the Janet Jackson incident.
We just let them sit through it and they were pretty rowdy during some of the commercials . . . even stopping to ask for explanations on some . . .
I'm no prude, and if there were no kids there, I probably wouldn't have minded any of the commercials, but there were young guys ages 10 - 13. Of course they "know" all of this stuff . . . so, maybe I'm just barking up the wrong tree???

Hey, just because they "know" all this stuff doesn't mean a bunch of adolescent kids should be bombarded with it. It was in bad taste, especially when you consider it was during family hour, and had a very mixed demographic. Over the line.
And of course the Janet thing was premeditated. Se figured Lil Kim did it, so why shouldn't she? A nice breast, I must admit. I wonder how much she paid for it.

It was way over-the-line . . . we had invited our pastor over, but early afternoon he had called saying that his wife wasn't "doing" too well, and they were going to stay home. I'm sure he, being an avid football fan, watched the game and had the asame reactions that many of us had. GOdd thing he wasn't at our house to hear the reactions of the boys, most of whom belong to his Youth Ministries. I would have had a red face for him!
I'm sure those "are paid for" as you say . . . I remember her in her youger days and they didn't stand up that proud. I'm sorry I "missed" the shot . . . one just isn't enough!

Have to hand it to the Patriots for making SB's exiting. Even when they lost that SB to my Packers in the 96 season it was a more competitive game then the final score indicated.
Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake did that by accident? that is the claim? :o

Oh my goodness. The uproar continues. CBS, the FCC and the NFL have all issued statements of outrage. (over the Janet and Justin thing) And MTV may be barred from producing any more Super Bowl halftime shows.
Sheesh! The things people will do for a little added fame. Or, in this case, infamousness.

My final thoughts on the Janet/Justin fiasco (I promise)
1. For an ill-conceived stunt, it's had a lot of impact. The Grammy's are going to have a five-minute tape delay, and virtually all other "live" broadcasts will have some sort of delay, from five seconds to a minute. (Except Saturday ight Live. Isn't that ironic?) Plus no more MTV half-time shows. And there's speculation that Janet will be pulled from the Grammy show lineup.
2. While I'm all for family values, there's a pile of hypocrisy here. If the Superbowl had been on HBO, there would have been no issue. Cable TV is not regulated by the FCC. So at the same time Janet was shocking the US on CBS, you could have tuned to a hundred different cable channels and seen many a bare breast with no backlash at all. Hmm.
3. The US is the only free, non-theocratic country in the world where this would be an issue at all. Have you ever watched TV in Europe, or Africa? I have. Boobs abound. Only the US is uptight enough to censor them out of TV. (That said, since they are censored in the US, the parents out there had a right to their outrage.)
Okay. I'm done until Superbowl XXXIX. 8)
