I unashamedly pilfered this list from here (http://www.tangopulse.net/you_know_you_re_a_tango_junkie_when____.htm) and though it talks mainly about addiction to Tango, I'm sure it will resonate with anyone who loves dancing!!! :)

* You keep a pair of dance shoes in your car.
* You've sold or moved most of your furniture to give yourself practice space.
* You make sure you never run out of breath mints or chewing gum.
* You copied all your tango music to your office computer and that's all you listen to 9 - 5
* You've danced with one of the biggies and survived.
* You own a tango t-shirt and wear it in public - constantly.
* You go through withdrawal without at least one tango-high per week.
* Your descriptions of tango have shifted from "unbounded enthusiasm" to "you wouldn't understand...
* Your friends are secrectly plotting to kidnap you for a week of serious deprogramming.
* You know who Carlos Gardel is.
* You wish you paid more attention in high school Spanish class.
* You cross state lines to tango.
* You listen to tango music when you're not at a practica or milonga.
* You bring your ankles and knees together all the time, even in the elevator.
* You plan the rest of your social life so it doesn't conflict with tango nights.
* You own a bootleg copy of Tango Bar.
* Your wardrobe is predominantly black.
* Ocho is more than just a number.
* Your fantasy travel destination is Buenos Aires.
* You are unable to schedule major surgery without compromising tango commitments.
* You now view the world in terms of people who tango and those unfortunate souls who don't.
* You have to work hard to maintain non-tango friendships (if you have any left).
* You've been dancing a year and still don't get bored talking tango.
* You have developed the ability to turn any conversation to tango within 2 minutes.
* You no longer have parties at your house; you host milongas.
* Before traveling, you check out the net for tango events in that area.
* You are willing to spend twice as much time driving to a milonga as you actually dance.
* You automatically do something Tango-ish whenever you navigate through a crowd.
* Your computer passwords at work are always phrases related to tango.
* Your ear has been trained to recognize the tango possibilities in all forms of music.

Substitute "salsa" for "tango" and I can see I'm more than halfway there!

Actually, I have been toying with the idea of trying AT just to see what it's like. The idea popped into my head the other day when I was browsing through this forum out of the frustration of facing a weekend with no salsa :!: at all :!: :!:
Apparently there are weekend milongas in my area with an introductory class for absolute beginners at the start. Having read the list, however, I'm having second thoughts; salsa addiction is bad enough on its own -- what if I end up with tango addition on top of that!?

I just got an email today about a beginner tango class and guess when it is? Tuesdays!!?!! I'm not quite sure what is up with that! (Everything is on Tuesdays!!) My tango addiction will have to wait while salsa takes precedence!! :)

a couple more:
you drive like you're dancing tango; pivoting at roundabouts
you name your children/pets after tango composers
you can't talk about anything else
you regard other forms of dance as mere frippery
you know exactly how long it takes to fast forward the video to the dance sequences in 'the tango lesson' and Saura's 'Tango'
you go to sleep rehearsing tango steps in your head
( I believe this technique is used by athletes the night before a competition)

I have a couple more that apply to any dance.
There aren't enough Tango(salsa) events in your area for you so you
get your own started: bonus points if you live in Buenos Aires(NY, L.A. Miami)
You get upset because your dancing friends only want to go out 2 out of the three nights with tango(salsa) this weekend.

Another one I thought of last night.
Your significant other goes out of town for the weekend and your first thought is "great, guilt free dancing with other's"

From just two days ago, in my case salsa,

... it's 3am, riding home on your bicycle after your fourth night of dancing that week, you're cold, sore and dead tired... and you're already thinking ahead to your next dance.
(about two hours from now, in case you're interested)

Yeah I get to be the first to welcome you to DF Tasek,
Yes I definitely see the addiction in you. I would go salsa with you but it is a bit far for me to travel.

Hi Tasek, and welcome to the ranks of the posting members of the DF! :D

Yeah, been there and done that too! (Well, except for the riding the bike part.)

Where in the Netherlands are you located by the way? Just curious...

Ha, ha, MacMoto...I know exactly what you mean...I was thinking the same thing when I posted it... I love AT, but I also adore salsa, and ballroom and swing and ballet and...well...you get the picture.

you should definitely try it...there's not sexier dance and what's fabulous about AT is that it offers the same freedom as salsa. You can pretty much do whatever you want, as long as it's in time with the music...

Did you try out the weekend milongas? You'll see, MacMoto, you'll get hooked, it's like salsa, it just draws you in.. :) Besides, how bad can a tango addiction be? :)

Tasek...hey, there's no such thing as going too far for dancing...perhaps that isn't the best example to set, eh?

Oh, well! Welcome to DF, hope you're still around! :)

Hmmm...

Apparently, I've got to be officially addicted to AT. I was waiting to cross the street, and was doing so by standing on my left leg, and had my right foot hooked behind it, a la tango. Then, when I went to step forward, I did a nice little embellishment of flicking my right foot up & back before stepping forward. The worst part was, I didn't even notice that i did it. It was a co-worker who was with me who pointed it out.

So, I've now arrived in the realm of doing AT things unconsciously in my everyday life. Why am I thinking of "Shall We Dance?" lol.

Between that, and having intimidated my first leader, I feel like I've arrived. LOL.

You were hooked a looong time ago. You just didn't realize it.

Oh, definitely hooked way earlier.

But now, with the outward vestiges of said hooking, I've arrived.

...and arrived you have! We're in the same boat now, no?

I know I'm really addicted when I'm getting a glass of water at the drinking fountain and I catch myself uncousciously doing "planeos." Or, trying to lead my imaginary partner into ochos as I walk down to the Starbuck's. Oops!

If I'm out in a shopping centre on a smooth floor I pivot as I turn, I do adornments as I wait in queue to pay.

I also listen to music in the car, if appropriate I change gear, indicate etc on the breaks.

Funniest was at the gym, idly wondering if a background track I hadn't heard before would work for WCS I did a triple step - on the treadmill!

We walk, talk and live dance. Its part of who we are now.

I wonder if its possible to adapt gym machines for dance training?
A treadmill that rotates so you do ochos.

Spooky, I was thinking this myself yesterday - actually, I was thinking of using the treadmill to practice walking technique. I didn't, but I thought about it :)

Hadn't been to the gym for a while, so got a new programme this week and in light of a recent injury, am aiming to work on strengthening core muscles for dancing.

I'm sure you could adapt a "leg press" machine to allow volcada practice and there must be something that would work for colgadas. Position those over the rotating treadmill and we could have the makings of a great spectator sport!

(I was once watching a movie while running on a treadmill; something happened on the screen that made me jump and the treadmill spat me out the back. Most embarrasing but fortunately not too painful.)
