I guess this is really a two part post... ;)

Part 1. So I am curious. Who here is a professional competitor (pro/pro)?

Part 2. My partner and I have decided to compete pro and are trying to determine our next steps as far as getting choreography and coaching etc.
I would love any kind of advice you could give to a first-time pro couple just starting out :D

I will pass on this advice quoted from a world class coach, who stated-- always make a plan, Set a goal for a realistic time , in which you wish to achieve your first success ( rising star, perhaps ) for e.g 3/5 yrs .

After you set your time, plan now, on what path you need to take to accomplish this first step.

How much practice time can you allocate weekly , daily ?( Now be realistic )

Private lessons--- once a week ? twice ?--1 hr or 2 each time

Coaching-- Monthly-- consistently.

Which comps do you attend ? ( for the coming season ) .

Once you have established the format, now factor in cost ( dont forget to add dresses shoes. tails, travel expense etc. )

After all this has been examined -- is it a viable proposition ?

You have to make a lot of sacrifices, but the journey is one hell of a ride !!
