The dance I am going to this has a WW2 theme, I have a dress that will work. So what I need is help with is my hair. Do you any suggestions on what I could do with it :?: The easier to do the better since I only have bobby pins to work with. I already have naturally curly hair so that works in my favor for the era.

During the war, long hair - about shoulder length - was the most fashionable. The top swept back from the forehead in a variety of pompadour effects secured by bobby pins. Bangs and fringes were generally used on little girls. Center parts rarely appeared, unless the hair naturally fell apart when swept back.

The sides, with either a single or double side part, also swept back from the face at the temples (sometimes secured by bobby pins or barrettes). Whether straight or curly the hair fell from a flat crown to a fairly blunt cut with as much volume as possible at the shoulders. After combing, ladies would often fluff the ends by slight backcombing.

Shorter styles, seen on curly heads, followed the same basic format: variations on the pompadour top, flat part and crown, sweep back at the temples, volume at the ends.

Hope that helps.

Have fun - they should play lots of Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey songs. My fave is "Song of India".
