I cannot get enough hot sauce (also cheese and wine)

I simply have to play certain passionate songs over and over and over

I must work out

I cannot get in the car without a drink

I cannot start the day without having diet coke or diet pepsi (my source of caffeine)

I simply have to play certain songs over and over and over (this changes as the mood strikes me)

<I'm sure I'll think of more.>

I have to weigh myself every day or every other day.
Drink lotsa water.
Count calories.
Must dance.

I'm big on Mountain Dew. I have to have one when I wake up, but then I'm good after that for a long time.

I'm really big on listening to music before I go to bed.

I have to shut out every light in my room before I go to bed, or I can't fall asleep. I've never had nightlights or anything like that.

I'm sure I'll think of more, but these are the main ones. ;)

am trying to come up with something... really trying... should i feel bad because i'm the least neurotic person i know? oh, but the stories i could tell from when i was younger... yeesh.

here's something idiosyncratic i've never been able to overcome -- i am utterly horribly grossed out by bad table manners, specifically very loud & open-mouthed chewing. also partly mesmerized... "how can they DO that???" have wondered so often why it affects me so... my father's bad, and everyone on his side of the family (in greece) is just... well, it's beyond description. i have to do deep breathing to be around this kind of behaviour.

other than that, i have all sorts of strong preferences, but i'm not in the end tied to them.

I asked DH about this. He says I have a helluva lot fewer things now than when he met me.

I will listen to a new favorite song/album on repeat (with nothing else) until I get sick of it or something takes its place. (Listened to 2 AT cd's, and nothing else, for several months that way when I came back from Bs.As.)

I used to be obsessive about having bottles of stuff (lotions/perfumes, etc.) lined up in a particular order--descending size--when in college.

I used to be obsessive about shirt buttons--if there was a button, it should be buttoned. Quite thankfully over that...had several guidance counselors quite worried and in contact with my parents.

Have to have the volume in my car set at some multiple of 5. 48, 49...bug the daylights out of me. Has to be 40, 45, 50, etc. Drives me nuts that the max is 63 (rarely drive with it lower than 50, and that's only in the morning when loud noises bother me).

If there's multi-colored candy, I have to sort it all out and arrange it neatly before eating it. Then, I have to eat it in some order.

Huh...wow...there are a lot more that I used to have which I can't actually list now.

Come to think of it, I used to get on candy kicks. Had to have a particular something (Peanut Chews, Swedish Fish, Chewy Sweet Tarts, etc.) every day or functioning didn't happen. I'd have to wear out that craving before I could go without it.

Come to think of it...I'm like that with breakfast, too. Went through a bagel kick, a biscuit kick...currently at the tail end of a grits with cheese kick.

It's all fun and games until your friends start tormenting you by re-arranging the bottles on your dresser at school. No kidding.

When I was really little, I used to tie everything in knots. My parents still tease me about it. I have very vivid memories of tying knots all the way down the ties that keep the little bumper things attached to the crib rails. Whatever they're called. Drove my parents nuts.

16 sets of ties, and I had to go through and tie them all, all the way down. Just granny knot after granny knot after granny knot. I had to, I couldn't have stopped myself if I tried. The strings were meant to be knotted, to keep things in place...had to knot them completely.

I don't know how many times I got in trouble for that...

Ok fine.... here's one:
when I eat colored candies (M&Ms and the like), I analyze the colors and rearrange them so that there is an equal number of each by eating the excess colors first.

1. I will admit to doing this. I also do it with munchkins(donut holes at Dunkin Donuts, my fav!). Freaks my sister out because I have to put the same-type holes together. Hey, I like to see how many of each I have left so that I can make sure I get equal of each!

2. I have to have chips and cheese dip at my fav mex restaurant at least once a week. I think they put something addictive in that stuff! (to balance it out I have a taco salad with it, lol!)

3. I hate it when I turn off lights in my bedroom but there is still light in the hallway. ME TOO!!

4. I simply have to play certain songs over and over and over (this changes as the mood strikes me) ME TOO!

5. I put off going to bed as long as possible. My mom has always maintained that I dread going to bed, but I'm not sure about that. I just remember all my life it taking me forever to get to sleep(my brain just keeps churning!)...I'm so envious of those who can just get in bed and fall asleep! Maybe I do dread having to get up [tired] and go to work in the morning, but the actual sleeping part is lovely, though I sometimes have very weird nightmares, based mostly around my many, many fears. Guess that should be my next one....

6. I'm an overly fearful, worried, stressful, self-concious person. Which is why dance is so good for me! Makes me less self-concious, makes me temporarily forget my fears and my worries, and gets rid of some of my stress. Not all, but some. Which makes me think of another thing my mom has always said: that I have never, ever relaxed. I'm always tense....not good on the neck/shoulders, of course, I can attest to this!

But enough about my weirdness. Ya'll need to think of so more so I forget how insane I am. lol!

I must exercise. Especially if I eat. Then I have to exercise more. If I'm not sore, I haven't done enough. (This may fall under a clincally diagnosable OCD-related disorder.)

I get fixated on particular CDs or movies and watch them over and over. Then I get bored and forget them for ages.

I frequently crave carbohydrates. And once in a while I just have to have buttercream frosting. I think it's the texture more than the taste. I will seriously go buy a Shaw's "cake snack" (a single-serve piece of sheet cake) just to eat the frosting. Nothing else will satisfy the craving.

I have other fixations/cravings, but let's leave those private. Especially since if I say any of them, I know a couple people who read these forums who might stumble across it would find them all very amusing and would never let me hear the end of them. EVER.

And I have to do certain things certain ways in a certain order, especially at work. Do not get me started on doing the dessert plates and what order I have to put stuff on and which way things are pointed. Apparently my boss got a reference call from someone I interviewed with that he told me about. He described me to them as "obessive compulsive." She then asked him what my strengths as an employee are and he claims to have said, "Didn't you just hear me? She's obsessive-compulsive."

I used to have strange habits as a child, like turning a light switch on and off so many times, stepping outside of a room with the same foot every time, and I wouldn't like to turn so if I turned so many times one way, I'd have to turn that many the other way to balance it out, oh and I liked to count how many words were in the sentence.

Luckily I don't do any of that stuff anymore, now most of my obsessions are with food or just keeping things organized. I don't feel right when my place gets too messy, then I go on a cleaning binge.

I WILL crave dancing to the point of curling up into fetal position and rocking back and forth when my partner is away for more than 4 days.... which is probably hardly surprising to anyone here, lol.

I use music to take myself to rock-bottom emotional state in order to then feel better, even if i initially start out feeling only a little sad.

Oh, and i'm obsessive about constantly updating my ballroom music - in fact, i dont think i can listen to music in public places without trying to fit a dance to it. interestingly, most songs fall in either the rhumba or the foxtrot categories.

So, as far as ballroom goes, i'm definitely a lost cause. :D

a bit extreme, I would say. Why don't you do what I do: just put on some music and dance on your own; last night I went on shamanic bender with the Saami music of Mari Boine.

I will have to try it. I initially learned ballroom (standard) by following and have been with that same partner i learned it from for 2 years now, so I suppose i just can't imagine dancing without him.

and yes. i'm a bit extreme and more than a bit idealistic.

Oh my lord!! I do the exact same thing as 123 with the M&M's. I guess it's like an OCD thing. I'll determine first which color has the most excess and I'll eat those in order, until all the higher # colors are brought down to meet each other. And then I'll continue until they are ALL brought down, and I have the exact same number of each color. Then I usually eat in the order of your standard color chart...red, orange, yellow, green, blue, light brown, dark brown. Repeat. Until they are all gone.

Honeycomb Cereal is one of my guilty pleasures, and on the rare occasions I buy it, I eat it in a certain way. Once I pour some into my bowl, first I'll eat the "defective" ones....the ones that are broken or badly mishaped. Then once all the bad ones are gone, I'll eat the smallest ones first and save the largest for last.

I think I have a number of OCDs. :-(

Another is...I will put license plates "in order". I do it so automatically sometimes. I'll look at a plate number, say "D9X 4HB". While I'm not a sauvant or anything, I will do my best to quickly apply the right number to any letters in the plate. So "D" = 4 (4th letter in alphabet). "X" = well my brain immediately knows it's just short of 26. "H" is probably somewhere around the number 11. So to put the plate in "order", it would be "BD49HX".

I think you are right P.

Googling I came accross this delight:
"Generally speaking, when it comes to Light Brown M&M extinction theories, there are basically three schools of
thought. The first one suggests that a giant meteor hit the planet, nearly killing all M&M's,
but ultimately only hurting the other species. The second theory,
known in the field as "Color Displacement", uses the fact that a new
species of M&M's emerged about that time, the migthy Blue M&M, whose
settled in the homelands of the Light Brown M&M's. Followers of this
theory speculate that the Blue M&M's invaded the Light Brown M&M's,
killing them and taking their villages for settling. The third theory,
known as "Evolution", suggests that the Light Brown M&M's underwent
evolutionary changes, because of potential changes in radiation from
the sun that would only affect Light Brown things. Under this theory,
the Light Brown M&M's are actually the ancestors of the current day
blue M&M's."

one i don't mind sharing is that i tend to sing along whenever i hear michael buble songs. i also have every song that he ever recorded - included the three albums he did in vancouver before "michael buble".

also, i tend to be a purist when it comes to ethnic cuisine - especially sushi.

i drive with the top down unless it's raining. but if it starts raining, i keep driving - you stay drier that way.

i can go to a dance venue, dance only once or twice and be completely happy (but the few dances tend to be with my favorite partners).

I have a few...

I do the sorting food and eating each evenly thing with M&Ms, Skittles, trail mix, granola, dried fruit, you name it.

Can only take notes in black pen, never blue, and never ever in pencil. Then must obsessively color-code them!!

Will obsessively listen to one song/artist/album....heaven.

I'm obsessive about matching. I match jewelry to clothes, can never not match (I even bought a watch that came with several different bands so those can match too). Also refuse to mix gold and silver jewelry. AND will never wear black and brown together (I know, they're both neutrals and it's technically ok) unless they're in a print, in which case my pants/skirt and shoes will all either be black OR brown, never mixed.

I put in/take out my contacts right first, then left. Also put my shoes on right first, then left. Ditto with earrings.

I'm sure I have more, but will refrain from listing them all for fear of sounding like a neurotic mess.

Does this count?

I just spent a good part of the evening making up a chart of the skirts and tops I am taking to dance camp, and listing which pieces go together. I want to avoid reaching the end of the week and finding the only clean tops only go with the skirts I've already worn several times. I'm planning to change tops three times a day (morning classes, afternoon classes and evening parties) but I need to avoid bringing extra clothes I'm not going to wear.

I want to keep to one suitcase, but because the venue is a little primative we have to bring our own towels and bedding (thank heavens for compact camping towels and hostel-type bedsacks -- but I don't know what I'm going to do about a pillow ...) so I don't have room for any "just-in-case" clothes.

Actually, for most major trips, I try to chart my clothes in advance, accounting for possible changes in weather and availability of laundromats ... is this organized or obsessive?

Zhena
07-07-2008, 12:54 AM
Oh ... and I do the sorting, counting thing too. The order (once I have taken care of the "excess" so I'm down to the same number of each type) is in order of preference ... I eat the ones I like least first so that I end with the taste of the ones I like best.

I used to think I was the only one who did this .... it's nice to know there are others out there.

There is nothing wrong with sorting candies by color and eating them in a particular order. Nor is there anything wrong with keeping food divided on your plate and eating it in a particular order. It's called having a system. There is nothing wrong with having a system.

Quote: (http://www.draculas.info/vampires_traits/)
Old folklore from Eastern Europe suggests that many vampires suffered from a form of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder , being fascinated with counting. Millet or poppy seeds were placed on the ground at the grave site of a presumed vampire, in order to keep the vampire occupied all night counting. Chinese myths about vampires also state that if a vampire comes across a sack of rice, s/he will have to count all of the grains. Aside from the Muppet character of Count von Count on television's Sesame Street and a fifth season episode of the X-Files titled Bad Blood, this characteristic seems to have largely disappeared from popular culture.
