I was just taught that both i American and International tango that for the walk that takes two counts, slow step, placement of the foot nornally occurs on the 1. I have previously learnt American tango with placement of the foot on the 2. (Or perhaps I really haven't paid that much attention to it before. ) Which is correct?

The Tango I'm doing at the moment (not sure whether International or American) has the slow steps starting on the first count. So a tango slow slow quick quick slow would translate into: slow(1) 2 slow(3) 4 quick(5) quick(6) slow(7) 8, meaning stepping on the 1 count and moving on the 2.

I do Argentine Tango as well, and while I have never thought about it much before, that seems to have it's slow starting on the 1 as well (even though the rhythum of Arg Tango gets me confused at times).

I'm confused. Are you asking the counts for a tango basic, or the mechanics of doing proper tango walks?
(Not sure that I can answer effectively either way LOL; just trying to clarify so that someone else can help you.)

Actually I think that I know the American tango basic of 5 steps to the 8 count, but just wanted clarification of foot placement for the slow of the tango walk in both styles of tango. (Not AT as I'm not doing that yet!!) I think that for the International tango walk the first slow you step with weight emphasized on the outer edge, second slow step the weight is on the inner side of the foot...etc

However, I believe that for the walk from promanade postion the foot is actually placed on the 2 of the slow...

But since you were asking....I think that the reverse turn in international tango is slow, quick, quick, slow, quick, quick, slow (feet together)? Correct?
