Hi everyone
I have been desperately searching for a male partner between the ages of 22 and 30 for the past few months. I am at beginner to intermediate Latin competition standard, and am really struggling to just hear of boys looking for partners, let alone ones who are interested in trying out. I know I stand a good chance if I can just try out with someone, but there are NO BOYS AROUND!! :(
I am from Sydney Australia and am willing to travel somewhere to find the right man! I have tried circulating studios, websites and wait for it....am so close to picking boys off the street and asking if they want to learn to dance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yep! - that desperate!
Any suggestions??
Thanks
:( :?

Hi Fazzy!
Welcome to the forum!
How you ever thought of speaking to NASA to broadcast a message from Mars to Earth saying "I need a dance partner, anyone interested?" (joking).
Seriously now, I know there are some Australians here on the DF, Salsachinita, MadamSamba,... who may know guys that live close to you and that may be interested. I´m sure if they do, they´ll help you with this.
Anyway I really hope you find the dance partner you´re looking for. Good Luck!

NASA!...Fantastic idea! I have more of a chance of finding guys on Mars than I do in Australia.
Thank you MapleLeaf Salsero....will look into this one.

Funny you should happen to ask today.
A week ago, I felt the same way you do. Nobody to practice and potentially compete with. I had been asking around for a year, checking websites, etc.
My question is, who is your dance teacher? Gender, I mean.
All along, I had been taking lessons exclusively with a male coach, who has primarily female students. And I networked away, but found no one. About two weeks ago, I mentioned to my (relatively new to me) female styling coach that I was looking for a partner. This morning, she emailed me the names of two potential partners. Two! :D
I guess my suggestion is try talking to female dance pros, who may know of more male students looking for partners.

Welcome to the forums Fazzy...
It took me over a year to find a social partner. when I least expected it, she dropped on my lap.
Don't be discouraged, keep searching, you haven't found one because you have yet to come across the right one. When he appears in front of you, you'll know he is the right one. Until then keep a positive attitude, don't even let the "never find" come into your mind. Soon, when time is right he will come around....
Best wishes in your search, hopefully DF memebers from Down Under can lend a helping hand. :D

WOW! You are all so lovely!!!!! Thanks for the suggestion! Is there a chat forum etiquette?? Is it bad to address everyone in the one message?...
David - Where in "Sydney-ish" do you live? What is your dance history?
Xtreme Salsa - Where do you live? And dance history?
borikensalsero - You are right! I know I should think positively. Good advice really. Grrr!...sounds like the same advice I get on my love life!
pygmalion - Have SIX (male and female) teachers searching for me!! To date I have only been into International Latin, but I am thinking that maybe I should try Salsa classes...I may meet a guy there who is willing to pick up comp?

Fazzy,
If you have six teachers out looking, you're bound to find the right guy. Soon. I think borikensalsero is right. The right partner will fall right into your lap, when the time is right.
Either that, or just hang in there with the forums, and you'll find the right one... even sooner!

I live on the Central Coast. Afraid I probably won't be of much assistance to you in this though, at the moment I just don't have the free time available to be able to do any reasonable amount of practice. Would be fun...

Hi Fazzy and everyone (as this is my very first post :o )
I just wanna share my frustrations in partner searching as well, because you're not the only one who's "desperate" to find someone to dance with.
I am a primarily Standard dancer (but can do Latin too), both in Bronze I/II levels. Just so you know that I, too, am looking for a partner as well, and been trying since last summer. I'm also quite selective on who I'm looking for (age, height compatibility, etc). It's incredibly frustrating, isn't it? Everyone says it's only a matter of time til a very good partner crosses your path. Hehe, and finding a perfect partner was one of my New Year's resolutions, so I hope it comes true. But it's taking too long, and I'm really ready to dance and compete. But who will do it with me???
Anyways, this is my first post, so I don't know how everyone carries on a conversation in a forum like this one. I do look forward to getting to know everyone.
Fazzy - good luck with finding a partner and let us know how your search is going! ^_~

Welcome to the forums dancing_moogle! :D
Yeah, I'm in the same partner search limbo myself, so I can sympathize (in the extreme!).

Fazzy,
You may have a point when it comes to looking in the salsa (or swing) world for a partner. I don't know how it is in Australia, but there, the ballroom world has very few men compared to either salsa or swing.
Actually, the two partners I'm considering are both contacts made through a salsa class. As it so happens, they both do ballroom too, but that contact was made through salsa. Food for thought. *shrug*

Hello, Fazzy! Welcome to the Df family! I'm glad another Aussie had just joined up 8) !
If you are looking for a Ballroom partner, have you posted a thread in the Ballroom area here in DF yet? Try that first......
If you are looking for possibility through Salsa, Sydney is FULL of keen dancers who might be happy to work with you. Just go to salsa clubs, which either myself or RedHairMermaid can give you a list. Just PM us.
I have just come back from Sydney, so my list of contacts would still be up-to-date.
I've been looking for a partner for salsa as well. Lots of social ones, but no one to do anything serious with. That's ok.....until I get bored  .
Sydney seems to be more competition oriented though, so I'm sure you will have better luck than me. Just go to salsa clubs, dance with people, and talk to them......someone's bound to know someone  !
