i know some folks are ready to puke if they go to another wedding that plays this one for the father/daughter dance but that's what we're doing.
we're rather novice dancers (and i'm looking for downloadable lessons); i don't know what step this song is.

Welcome to DF johnpet. It's wonderful that you're planning out your father/daughter dance, I'm sure it's something both of you will remember and enjoy!

As for your question, am I correct in assuming that Butterfly Kisses is a song and you'd like to know what style of dance can be danced to it?

Okay, just took a listen to a 30 second snippet on iTunes. It sounds like a 4/4 song, and it's fairly slow. I think you can do a foxtrot to it for a wedding. I'm sure you'll get more input from our members in a bit....

(Of course the first thing that came to my mind was rumba, but hey you can't take the "latin" out of a latingal that easily. *grin*)

Yes, it's in 4/4 time. I think a slow foxtrot for a wedding would be wonderful.

I'll put another vote in for foxtrot or international rumba. Or even a combo routine if you're up to it. Couple at studio working on a great combination rumba/foxtrot (medley? combo? whatever you call it) for their wedding. Their song is a bit faster than this one though, more of an intermediate song between the two (slightly fast for a foxtrot for my taste, but sliightly slow for rumba).

For a beginner, I would recommend nightclub two-step. It's easier than slow foxtrot and more father-daughtery than rumba. You can view some basics at how2dance.com, but of course, going to a studio and getting a few lessons is much preferable to trying to learn from videos.

I might have to change my vote to go with Dizzydancer here. Not that my opinion has a clue, but I know my pro goes for nightclub 2 step a lot for wedding couples. So based on heropoinion of that as a choice for wedding couples, will change my voote to that. :)

Heck, I'm a syllabus student, if i t's not on my little card I don't know it. ;) Not really that bad, but do tend to think of those dances first. Though that makes things like bachata at a club more fun.

Since you are in the "Ballroom" forum, I would recommend the fox trot. There is a "Country Western" forum where I'm sure you can get more expert advice on the nightclub two step.
