Okay everyone, i have a problem. My competition shoes are all black from being stepped on so how do i clean them? a coach once said rubbing alcohol but you have to scrub them which pills the material. Please help! Thanks !! :)

Use the liquid stain remover stuff that Dryel makes (Dryel is the "home" "dry cleaning" stuff, I can get it at my local Safeway). Use a cotton pad, and rub in one direction, the way the satin goes, so it doesn't pill.

Can I just say Laura, you are an amazing resource on all things ballroom...we're lucky to have you (and many of the other resourceful DF'ers around here!)
You dance as long as Laura has, you pick up a few things. ;)

FYI,
for cleaning satin shoes you can also try arts and craft stores such as "Michaels" in the Northeast". I beleieve they actually have a cleaner made specifically for Satin material whether it be for clothes, shoes, or arts and crafts.

Good to know dancerman, thanks for the tip!
Just test on an inconspicuous area first--it may be designed to clean dye off in addition to dirt. :)

i asked my pro & his partner about this once. they said just watercolor them, which instantly gives a fresh color to them. they said they just use a kids' paintbox, but I can't figure out how i'd get the color mix spot-on that way, so next time i'm at michaels i'm gonna buy a tube of artists' watercolor the right color (or a couple to blend a sizeable batch) and so i'm ready when my next pair get dirty.
i've watercolored my shoes black from a paintbox, tho... turned out great!

When I first started out I danced with some guys that used black shoe polish ,which then coated my white satin shoes when they brushed against my feet. I thought the shoes ruined but the Multi-7 made them look like new, I was so relieved. Spot check it though if you have another colour, just to be safe.
