Hi Kat, I'm not the authority on this, but from the USA Dance website, here's what I copied and it might be correct:

Oct 19 - 20, 2007 USA Dance SE Regional DanceSport Championships
Jan 18 - 20, 2008 USA Dance NE Regional DanceSport Championships
Feb 9 - 10, 2008 USA Dance NC Regional DanceSport Championships

The good news is that the SE and NC look to be relatively close to those missing the NE (compared to out West)

Unfortunately, the chapter does not appear to have updated the site with 2008 event info you.

If there is any way you could swing by Atlanta - we did that one year and it made for a very pleasant year!

We are going to go to Altanta and will do Hotlanta but cannot dance after 9 at SRC because we are doing a show on the same night.. I believe SRC was the first time I talked to your wife :)

Kat,

It may not help you - but may help some others...

In order to qualify for the 2008 Nationals, a couple would have had to attend a Regional Championship in the 12 months preceding Nationals. Since 2008 Nationals will be in April (3-5 I believe), all Regionals danced after April 3rd 2007 will qualify as qualifying events.

Hope this helps - good luck figuring Regionals out -

Borbala

Wasn’t the NJ Dancesport Classic on April 21st the NE Regional for 2007? Wouldn’t anyone who competed in that be qualified for the 2008 Nationals? Hope so.

Sure sounds like it... Although at the time that wasn't explicitly made clear in the same way some of the later west coast regionals were... Until Borbala's above posting that is.

It's EXTREMELY clear in the current USA Dance rule book: competitors have to dance a Regional in the preceding twelve months. So, any Regional danced after April 7, 2007, has already qualified you for 2008 Nationals.

I know some organizers are going to be annoyed at me for confirming this (I got a nastygram about this from someone a few months ago), but that's the way it is. This is a one-time thing that came about as a side-effect of moving Nationals back from August to April in 2008.

(Actually, it's not entirely a one-time thing -- back in 2001, when the Regional participation requirement was instituted, there were also a few Regionals that counted for two years' worth of Nationals. So this sort of thing has happened before.)

I'd agree that Orange County is indeed great for competitors. Embassy, California Open, California Star, etc...Have had very good experience staying there. The beaches are SO NICE & there'e so many of them :) February - well, might be too cold for beaches though :)

Airfare wise, people can fly in to 4 different airports relatively close by. SNA (orange county), LAX, BUR (Burbank) and ONT (Ontario). Lots of choices for airfare bargain.

Well, we don't have to do another regional to qualify, but SW regional does seem tempting :) Problem is it's really close to California Open date wise. I wonder how it's going to pan out for either competition in regards to amateur participation. SW Regional might take a bit away from CA Open, I'm afraid...

Did you do the Chicago regional??? We were surprised to learn that regional (early April) qualified us for 2008.

Fight costs to go to a regional are a consideration, but not the be all..... It is costing us a cool 1K to go to Atlanta while we can go to a CA regional for a quarter of that cost.... For us it is not just the flight cost but the time to get there...

We can leave our offices at 5:00 PM and be in Atlanta in a few hours later or go to the West coast for half the price in 8 hours, all beat up.... Everyone has to make thier own choices, I guess.

If you're asking about Kat, no, she didn't. We did & also the San Jose regional, so we're more than set ;)

I was about to say the same! NJDSC Spring Fling aka Northeast Regionals in 2007 should have qualified those who dance for Nationals of 2007 and 2008...

*crossing fingers* Grad school willing and the creek don't rise, I'm gonna do my best to qualify and dance Nationals this year. They're is a stone's throw from my home in MD, so it would be stupid for me to let them pass by! Unfortunately, SRC runs all of my events on Friday, and I can't justify missing all those classes, so here's hoping for better schedules at MAC (or in TN)!
