Most of you have probably done this at one time or another: that exercise where one person is blind-folded and the other one is not, with the one who can see being responsible for leading the blind-folded partner. I had to lead someone during this exercise at a workshop held where I work. This was after I had started dancing, and that dancing experience translated well into the exercise. Only our hands were connected. (I was very tempted to put her in hammer-lock position and start leading her through all sorts of crazy stuff, but I restrained myself.) During the discussion, my partner commented on how I had been able to reassure her just with the way I was holding her hands, and also said something about how smoothly I had been able to lead her (which triggered some jokes about me being a smooth operator, and so forth). It was gratifying to get that feedback from my partner. I'm wondering if others have found that their dancing experience was reflected when they did this exercise.

Great Topic HotHouseSalsero!

I´ve never done this exercise at a workshop or in class. I have however done it several times on the social dance floor (only when it´s not crowded, of course).

The first time I did this was when this girl I was dancing with closed her eyes for a couple of seconds. I told her, "lets dance another, but this time close your eyes during the entire song." She smiled and agreed. At the end of the song, her face was white. I asked how it had gone. She answered, it was a very, very "strange" sensation, however, I´m not going to describe it to you.

This made me very curious so I tried it on a few other women. I always requested feedback, but none of them ever explained it to me. The only thing they´d tell me was, "I would only do this with a guy I trust". I haven´t done this for some time but I´m still very curious to know what it feels like. Has anyone ever been in a situation like this? Can anyone explain it to me?

Interesting...I have never seen a blindfold used on the dance floor, but I think I would like to try it.

I do often ask the ladies to close their eyes, and try to "feel" which foot there partner is stepping on, because it helps them to develop that sixth sense.

It would be interesting to go buy some material and surprise my class some time.
