Has anyone out there participated in one of these? Apparently, the Meetup group, whoever they are, supplies the technology to coordinate face to face meetings of people from all over the world who are interested in ballroom dance. The thing is, it's not an online meeting place like DF. It's a face to face meeting that might be held at a dance venue, or a bowling alley or coffee shop. And it's free. Sounds interesting to me. What do you think?

A good idea to meet up with people with similar interests as you, I guess. Especially if you are new to the area, or not danced in a while. Otherwise you do get to socialize with people at dances already.

It's actually great fun. I used to be very active on the Wedding Channel message board, and the local brides in my area are always cooking up ways to meet together.
I am also wondering why there isn't a "local" section on this board...unless I just haven't found it yet.
The way I've seen it done to set up a Forum for each main regional area that folks are in on the boards. The locals all ask each other questions about what's going on in their area, and then often have gatherings that they just set up on their own.
It's a great way to find local vendors, support the local businesses, and also to let each other know of local functions.
Just an idea....

Sounds like fun to me too. I already know a lot of ballroom people in my area, but you never know, I might meet even more dance nuts. 8)
