(I couldn't see how this fitted into any other catagory so I put it here. Please move if it belongs elsewhere)

I do this 7 nights a week. Mainly to get me out of the house but also to compensate my general lack of exercise and fitness that I have totally disregarded from my life, upto three and a half years ago.

I find it fun and a great way to meet fellow minded people. Yes it doesn't teach professionalism expicitly or concentrate on detail footwork but that doesn't mean it is unskillful as I have seen commented in the past.

I have have also seen comment that it lacks any sort of lead or follow and musicallity, which is very much untrue. This may be the case to the more novice amongst us but isn't for those who put a bit of effort in.

Anyways does anybody esle do this or have at least tried it and what do you think of it compared to other similar styles of dance eg Salsa, WCS? And what are you favourite/most hated moves?

Much the same for me. But not 7 nights -- I get a bit too tired if I try that.

Where do you dance?

Where do you dance?

Mainly around cheshire or around stockport. Occasionally pop over to north Wales. Where do you go?

Hi Steven - welcome to DF

I can't say I dance 7 nights a week - actually most weeknights a don't dance - however weekends are different and am generally all over the countryside.

I've been dancing modern-jive coming up on 8 years now - god that makes me feel old - Started in Melbourne, Aus, then moved to Perth, Aus - and am now in the UK

There are some very significant differences in the way that Ceroc is taught in Aus vs UK - which make a big difference early but once you move beyond intermediate - really doesn't make a lot of difference.

comparing MJ to Salsa, WCS, lindy, ballroom etc is difficult as while they are all partner dances they each have their own formats.

MJ at the most basic level will get people up and freestyling and having fun - sooner than pretty much any other dance style I have tried.

as to musicality and style well I have seen some pretty, hideous WCS, salsa, tango, ballroom. To see amazing musicality and style you have to look to those at the top of their games.

I believe that modern jive is popular with folks from India. At my cousin's wedding I did some sort of weird dancing and all the folks were saying that I was jiving.

Yeah, they're all power-crazed nutters. Stay clear of them, that's my advice.
