Yeah, I spent the night with my bestest friend last night, and we stayed up till 4 am watching Paula Abdul concert videos and doing warm-ups and stretches. All of a sudden, right in the middle of Paula's performance of "Aint Never Gonna Let You Go" on Leno, Ann turns to me and goes, "Let's make up some dances!!" I was like haha, yeah right. lol. But she insisted we try.
Now, I knew that Ann took dance when she was ages 6-12 (she's 15 now) but once we picked out a song (one by Def Leppard - good to dance to, really!) and she started going step by step and making moves, etc. I was picking my jaw up off the floor. I was like, "Ann. You can actually invent and execute dance moves like this and you never told me this?" She just stopped and was like, "Oh...... I used to dream of being a choreographer and dancer..... y'know, famous." :D
We ended up staying up till six am working on the first verse of the song, designing outfits for our first performace (*wink*), and just talking till we drifted to sleep about all the crowds we're gonna draw with our kick-butt dance team in a few years.
Sorry long post. But oh my God. I've got a dancer for a friend!!! *squeal* Watch out, world! :P

Wow!! Great! Fantastic PaulaAbdulFan! :D I know you were asking in df if there were people of like minds here, and now you have a person in real life, a friend, a choreographer.

Wow.....! PAF, every time I read one of your posts I thought of myself at your age.
My bestest friend, Betty, used to do the EXACT things you were talking about here (and yes, we were both HUGE Paula Abdul fans  ). From age 15-18 we used to dream about being dancers, doing our own choreography, putting on shows etc.
She was really the naturally talented dancer.......never took a lesson, but KNEW all the moves. Whereas I had to work REALLY hard to get half as good......
My dream was to be her fashion stylist (which lead me to be a fashion deisgner in real life) & DJ (so I could play cool music for her). Betty was of similar shape & build as Paula Abdul, so I used to do her hair/dress her up as such  !
We both had strict parents. Hers were much worse than mine. As we got busy with school work she was able to spend less & less time with me. While I started to fight my way into learning to dance, she was almost always grounded :( ! So when salsa (R&B/hip-hop/pop we were able to copy video clips, but salsa we couldn't) fever hit us, I went to class alone promising Betty that I'd learn it for both of us.
Now, years later, I am a competent salsa dancer. I am doing my best to get Betty to come back....coz I know she still RULES, despite what she thinks of herself. She's one of those shy people who only truly comes alive when she's dancing 8) ........
(sorry about the long post.......just felt like sharing........)

Tell Betty that I expect a dance with her when I eventually make it down there (and there are actually 37 pennies in the piggy bank already!), so she better get started...

Better give 'em some growth hormones and steroids too... just killed my car (about 5 hours ago), so that's going to be that much more money I'm not going to have available to save up...

I have been having my first taste in choreography myself. I have been mucking around with some steps in my rumba routine I am working on with my instructor. A couple of times I have taken my ideas to him and he has been very good and incorporated some of them into the routine.
Now in the group routine I am doing he has given me a sort of solo (as usual not enough guys to go around in the routine so some girls have to dance at times by themselves). He just said to me that you are here playing up to the audience and left me with it, knowing full well I'll muck around and come up with something. I'm finding it a lot of fun and a real challenge. :D
I think everybody has an "inner choreographer" just waiting for the opportunity to come out. Let's face it, at least with social dancing, the leads are choreographing as they go along anyway. It's just coming from a set group of figures.
By the way SD, hope it was a case of damaged car but not too badly damaged body!! :?:

Thanks for the concer d_f.... the car is a total loss, and the financial ramifications of that aren't too pretty either. While I am sure my chiropractor will be earning his fee tomorrow, I think that I'm realtively in one peice. My only concern is that I have a bad back which this accident may re-activate and I have a ballroom comp coming up in three weeks!
