Is it acceptable to wear a vest for Pro Am International Standard?
Thanks!

What level are you going to be dancing?

Do you mean for teaching or for competing? If it's for teaching, of course it's acceptable. If it's for competing, I've seen it done by teachers who don't have a tail suit yet, dancing with Newcomer and Bronze level students.

If you're going to keep doing Pro/Am, though, you will need to get an outfit for Standard. Many Pros now wear "short jackets" rather than tail suits, but they're still made-to-order by dance wear tailors -- an off-the-rack jacket will not fit right for dancing.

We'll be dancing pre bronze.

I will eventually get a tail suit i just don't have a 1000 dollars to spare right now, lol.

You'll be okay, don't worry about it! In my first competition with one of my ex-teachers, he didn't have a tail suit and so wore a nice vest. We were dancing Intermediate Bronze.

The nice thing about the tail suit, though, is that one you've got it -- you've got it. You can wear that thing until it gets ratty. The ladies have to replace their dresses much more frequently -- they they run $2000 and up per dress!

Perhaps, I am a traditionalist. I like to think of myself as classy. Either way, I do not like the contemporary trend of dancewear becoming more and more casual. My recommendation would be to not worry about it in the pre-catagories, but move towards a tailcoat as swiftly as possible. There are many options that might help to make it an easier acquisition.

If they're good enough for Jonathan Wilkins and Victor Fung, they're good enough for me...
