I'll be in the UK most of March, hook me up with the salsa info! I've been checking out a few web pages with info but it's always better to hear from people in the scene.

Which part of the UK will you be in? Any plan for a trip to Scotland?

There are generally a lot of Salsa happenings in the UK - though strangely, rather little on Saturdays in London. For events in and around London, check the following promoter's sites:
http://www.salsa-uk.com
http://www.mambocity.co.uk/cal2002.htm
Alternatively, you could try asking the question on our forum ;) - it's mostly inhabited by UK-based Salseros ..

Err .. well, not sure about "cool", for "critiqued/evaluated" read "slated" (and on our own forum, too!) and some of 109 (current) clips actually feature salsa superstars like Orville of Salsation performing, but otherwise, yup, that's us ..

You'll find in London there is something salsa going on every night of the week. As salsaMafia suggested try out Mambo City or Salsa-UKs sites. Another one worth a look is www.salsabeat.com which has a London diary. I would say the most popular (not necessarily my favourites though!) places for each night would be as follows:
Mondays - Bar Salsa, Charing Cross Road
Tuesdays - Sound, Leicester Square or Bar Rumba, Shaftsbury Avenue
Wednesdays - La Finca, Pentonville Road
Thursdays - My Place, Earls Court or La Finca
Fridays - Never much on but I like Ronnie Scotts in Soho (upstairs is salsa)
Sat - Various monthly events (MamboCity, Fusion, Salsa-UK, LatinMax). Otherwise Palladium on Leicester Square is popular.
Sunday - SOS, Russell Square
For Birmingham I'm not too sure, but I would think Mauricio Reyes' site would be a good start - www.latinmotion.co.uk.
Hope this helps and let me know if you need any more info!

:D Hey......! I went to La Finca back in '93....! I think it was a Friday night.. really cool.
Good to know it is still happening! And yes, London is fantastic salsa-wise, from what I know.
Oh, my welcome to you, Templeria!

True, but if you don't have a car, then sometimes, IMO that has to be a consideration of where you go. That said, the underground system tends to have it's last trains between 11pm to 12.15am. You just have to make sure and ask when planning your journey. There are buses at night also but there is generally a long wait and it could take a while to get back home/where you are staying.
In no order of preference, and building on Templeria's list for Central London (there is stuff further out from Central London so it would be useful to know the area where you will be:
Mondays
Bar Salsa, Charing Cross Road ("Super" Mario and Susana Montero teaching)
Bar Cuba, South Kensington
Tuesdays
Sound, Leicester Square
Bar Rumba, Shaftsbury Avenue
Firehouse, South Kensington (www.trulymadlysalsa.com)
Wednesdays
Bar Cuba, South Kensington (www.trulymadlysalsa.com)
La Finca, Pentonville Road
Thursdays
My Place, Earls Court ("Super" Mario and Susana Montero teaching)
La Finca, Pentonville Road
Fridays
MamboCity, Ealing Town Hall (www.mambocity.co.uk)
Ronnie Scotts, Soho (upstairs is salsa, I have heard that this is quite "touristy" :? though)
Saturdays
Various monthly events, so best to check their websites:
MamboCity (www.mambocity.co.uk)
Salsa-UK (www.salsauk.com)
Fusion
LatinMax
Otherwise Palladium on Leicester Square is popular.
Sundays
Salsa on Sunday "SoS", Russell Square (www.salsalife.co.uk)
For Birmingham I'm not too sure, but I would think Mauricio Reyes' site would be a good start - www.latinmotion.co.uk

I am not familiar with salsa in Suffolk but if you haven't found them all ready, you may also want to try these two websites for their diaries/events pages:
http://www.latindance.fsnet.co.uk/salsa.htm#near
www.uksalsa.com
Unfortunately, it can be difficult to assess how current the information is, from a distance. My experience is that the info on UKSalsa is pretty upto date, with the first link, I see an entry for London which may be out of date, by at least a year? I could be wrong.
Ipswich or Cambridge may be closer to where you will be and therefore easier for you to get too, if you can't get to London. They will certainly be cheaper if you wanted to overnight somewhere, unless you have friends you can stay with. In which case, accomodation won't be a problem.
Just don't expect the standard to be as high as you may have experienced in the US, but for friendliness, you will probably feel welcomed/at home.

Yeah I've been checking into spots in Ipswich and Cambridge. As far as the level of dancers, it's all good!

If you're in Suffolk, Essex is just the next county along. Ive heard good things about www.essexsalsa.co.uk, although I've never been myself. Still, I know they do big monthly club nights so may be worth checking out.
