I found this on the website salsamafia it kind of pokes a little bit of fun at the salsa community,
this is too funny
there is alot more on the site but I had to post this.
I must admit I am guilty of a couple of these(just a couple)
Code of Conduct

ike any exclusive organisation, da Mafia has a strict code of conduct that all 'made' members must adhere to or face dire and disproportionate sanction. As part of our secret initiation ceremony, each Mafiosi swears to be abide by the following sacred rules:

I will adopt an air of god-like and untouchable supremacy on entering a club

I will only arrive at a club once lesser dancers begin to leave

I will maintain a cool and serious expression at all times, particularly when dancing

I will only smile in a condescending manner, preferably at the misfortune of others

I will have an impeccable feel for the music

I will hit every break, beat, conga and crescendo perfectly

I will not dance to merengue (unless in a mocking manner .. or with a cute babe/hunk)

I will dance Cha-Cha with incredible grace and fluidity

I will never be seen doing a dance lesson

I will constantly have new and exciting variations

I will remain loyal to my clan and never reveal the true source of my moves

I will not divulge any information to non-Mafiosi (unless to belittle them)

I will always maintain I took up Salsa implausibly recently

I will never reveal the extent of the training required to become a member of the Mafia

I don't often dance merengue, except with a cute girl,
and I have only been dancing salsa a couple of months
I think we all are guilty of looking too serious.
I am always making sure i have new and exciting variations.

That's a riot! Thanks for sharing Vin. I don't think I would fit in though, the only one that applies to me is that I don't do Merengue! :P

Oddly enough, I remember about a month or so ago a guy walked into our local club sporting a Salsa Mafia t-shirt. He was an amazing dancer...but he did adhere very strictly to that list and I'm not joking either!

I will dance merengue. Unfortunately it is a simple dance. The one two driving beat is what people like about it, and they go to the extent of liking techno merengue, where the music is so hard that the romance of the latin dance is lost!! Not my favourite as you cannot flirt with that. I enjoy dancing merengue, and actually dance it with my gf. I have said in the past that I will dance merengue with beginners, but now I find that for both beginners and intermediate dancers a lot of people never can get into the merengue beat. That makes dancing with them just as awful as dancing salsa, cha cha...any dance with someone who just does not have the right connection to you and the music. However, wandering even further away from the topic I will dance dances with beginners as I know that I wouldn't be where I am if advanced dancers were willing to dance with me, and encouraged me. I said it before and I plan to keep my word!! :) May not do as many dances depending on the night and who is there, but every night I make a point of getting those people just sitting out there, who want to dance, but are lost. :)

You can find an in depth discussion about alot of our merengue dislike and like at
http://www.dance-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=2343.

For me it just seems that I get no variety during merengue and it tires me out too quickly. I would rather wait until a salsa comes on. However if there is no salsa to be had, so be it, merengue will have to do.
Actually if there is no one to salsa with at a party I prefer merengue because it is easier to lead a beginner through a decent dance experience.
