How many entries do USABDA comps get in the silver/gold international ballroom and latin?
I live in the Buffalo area and am fortunate to be able to compete 10 to 11 times a year, mostly in the Toronto area. Sometimes there as few as 3, sometimes as many as 13 or 14 couples.
Can anyone recommend a USABDA competition that is within a day's drive of Buffalo, and typically has a good field in Silver/Gold Intl Latin/Ballroom?
I have been disappointed by the small field even at some of the biggest US comps like Ohio Star and Yankee Classic.

Hi compdancer. Welcome. My local USABDA comp is lame at best. Not enough competitors. Just wanted to say hello. Welcome to the forums. 8)

Try the MAC in NYC. There were about 35 to 40 couples competing in the Silver/Gold categories in International. Unfortunately, it's too late for this year, but plan on next year.

Lots of entries all right. Can one enter both adult and senior I? My partner and I are 40. In Ontario, Senior I is 35 and over, and couples can compete in both.
In looking further, the NJ Summer Sizzler caught my eye. Any comments?

I believe all the comp rules/age categories, etc, are spelled out at usabda.org Probably worth a look -- everything's there, from music tempi, to costumes, performance categories. The whole nine yards.

The Summer Sizzler.....
Hard to say. The organizers hold 3 competitions at the same place every year (The Spring Fling, Summer Sizzler, and the Fall Frolic). Competition in the Adult Syllabus categories tend to be fairly light (3 or 4 couples on average I'd say). Since one of the organizers is a fairly renown standard coach, the competition is heavy in the open standard division. Last year, I had the good fortune of watching Victor Fung & Lien Apale (sp?) (at the time, they were the #1 Amateur standard couple in the US) competing in the open standard category.
Good, small amateur competition that is growing every year.
P.S. The Spring Fling is next month.
