We all love dancing, it's true. So dancing lots is really no burden. But for all of us, especially competitive or exhibition dancers, or even those of us who've had dance disappointments, there are times when it takes real self discipline to keep going, I think. Making yourself practice, making yourself go to rehearsal. Doing what you have to, to get through a low point and keep going. How do you do that? How do you develop dance self discipline? What do you think?

Well I cant say Ive yet had to make myself go to class or anything yet....in fact its the opposite! Take now for instance, I have 2 classes and a social tomorrow and I just cant wait for them! I will spend half the day trying to occupy my mind so I dont think about it. The other half of the day will be spent practicing my routines
Then tomorrow I will begin getting ready mid afternoon, even thought class doesnt start till 7pm. Then I will sit impatiently until its time to leave, I always leave 10 or 15 minutes early, I would rather sit by the dance floor and watch others practice than sit at home :D :D

Hmmmm Didnt answer you question at all did I? Sorry!

Nope. You didn't answer the question, but that's okay. I think there's this weird dichotomy with dance -- I love it with passion, so sometimes it's the easiest thing in the world to do. But sometimes, I'm discouraged, or brned out or working on something that's extremely challenging. Then, the easiest thing in the world to do is just quit, or do some dance thing that's more fun.

I've found that when I'm doing something challenging, as long as I'm making some progress (even just a little), I want to do it more than if I were doing something simple. So I constantly try to find something challenging, but doable, and that makes it a lot easier to stay focused on something.

Not sure why I'm replying to this one, since I don't compete or go to classes......

For me, self discipline means a burning desire to achieve self improvement. It means I make an effort to go out of my comfort zone & get familiar with th un-familiar  .

It's not always easy.....and sometimes I feel less than myself; so I splash around in my comfort zone instead of taking the plunge  . Other times, the opportunities are simply not there.........frustrating :x !

As NeoDevin said, challenges are good 8) . I actively look for them (which makes me a real sucker for punishments sometimes  )!
