First name the group. Then name the people in the group.
I got this photo from a collector a long time ago. I believe it is rare, but I can't say for sure.

No clue, DM, but it's a great photo. Maybe I'll cheat and google some lindy hop history web sites (there are a bunch) to see if I can recognize these folks.

Where are our Lindy Hop experts anyway?
I've got more pictures after this.
I'll give you somewhat of a hint. Frankie Manning is not in the picture.

Why . . . that's Damon Stone and the Stonettes . . .???? Damon is in the middle!

How about "Whitey's Lindy Hoppers?"

I have the names if that's the group . . . and Manning is one of them!

Spike Lee and Denzel Washington from the movie "Malcolm X?"

Just guessing here . . .

Still say it's Damon when he was 14 . . .

It is not Whitey's Lindy Hoppers or Damon Stone and the Stonettes.

Uh, oh. Now I have to do a 'search.' You're making us work for this . . .

Post it on Yehoodi. Somebody over there should know. Either that or they'll argue for 2 weeks about who they are and whether or not they're doing 2,4,6 or 8 count moves.

I posted (http://www.yehoodi.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=439889) on Yehoodi, and they are not doing any better.

Yeah, I saw that. Give it a little time. Maybe somebody on there will step up and help after the Joe Lanza jokes get old.

I see you gave more hints "over there." And others thought it to be "Whitey's Lindy Hopper's" too . . . are you sure it's not?

Where's Damon when we need him? He knows!

What's nice about doing the research looking for the answer . . . I've come across a lot of interesting writings that I printed out and have been reading . . . such as "characteristics of African dance that are found in African-American dance forms" that I though was SO fascinating!

Apparently this picture is indeed rare and even Terry Monaghan, the guy from the Jiving Lindy Hoppers in England, who is getting his phd in this subject area, is still trying to figure out the answer.

So this is a more difficult question than I first presumed. I have a little more information that have not yet revealed, but I'm hoping Terry or Damon will be able to provide an even better answer.

I give up . . . too exhausting to search anymore. I haven't done a lick of work all morning, which is nothing different than any other morning since joining the DF!!!!!!!

Smile when you do that . . . if I'm not working, I'm not making any $$$. Which leaves you to buy all the lunches and dinners in Reno

Well, let me at least tell you the peice of info I have. On the bag of the photo is typed:

Shorty's Original Lindy Hoppers

I'd still like to know who they are, and I hope this photo might be helpful to a Lindy Historian.

George "Shorty" Snowden I recall reading danced will Big Bea ... are they the couple in the middle? I want to go to the library and see if I can find some good pictures

If you look at the copy of the photo in the Photo Album, Damon has provided a partial answer...

so now we just need the names of the couple in the center!

this has been fun... I've been planing a trip to the library-- this is a great excuse to delve into what they might have there :D

Sing Lim, a world-class lindy hopper from Singapore, posted this on Yehoodi.

Frankie says he does not know the name of the group.. He reckons they were a bunch of the dancers which Whitely threw together for a gig. (apparently he used to do that)

Frankie only recognises some of the dancers in the picture.

The man on the left is Snookie Beasley. he's doing his speciality slidey twisty thing which he does in Day at The Races. Frankie said they allused to copy him, but no one could do it like him.

The man in the middle is Eddie.

The couple on the left are Gladys Crowder and George Green who also was in Day at the Races, but with another lady.

I love Frankie. You guys who get to see him so ofthen are so lucky.

Thanks, Hepcatbob...I was about to post that, but you beat me to it. Also, Terry from the Jiving Lindy Hoppers is planning to ask a couple of other old timers and said he would have an answer around Tuesday.

Hi David,

It took a little longer, but here's what I've been able to find out:

From left to right:

Naomi Waller & Snookie,
Joyce Daniels & Shorty Davis
Ella Gibson and Long George

If the first women is Naomi, ... but on the other hand it's not a normal type of "Naomi pose." The other qualification is Joyce Danials, as she was not a known Shorty Davis partner. If someone could ask Norma, she would undoubtedly confirm that the third women was Ella Gibson.
