Sand vs. Stone
--Autor Unknown
A story tells that two friends were walking through the desert. During some point of the journey they had an argument, and one friend slapped the other one in the face. The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, wrote in the sand:
TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE.
They kept on walking until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire and
started drowning, but the friend saved him. After he recovered from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone:
TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SAVED MY LIFE.
The friend who had both slapped and saved his best friend asked him,
"After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand and now, you write on a stone,
why?" The other friend replied "When someone hurts us we should write it down in sand where winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But, when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it."

I enjoyed this one. It seems very appropriate. At mass yesterday the theme was about forgiveness and one of the of the chaplains relates this real incident which inspired him.
Phil is going to Mt. Savior's monastory to talk to a group of people on a retreat. Just at the corner he sees this old lady who sells homemade pies. (She looks as if she is in her 50s.) So he buys a couple from her for a mardi-gras party that the RC staff are having this week, and he asks her why he hasn't seen her for a long time. She said, "I've been icebound at home. The weather just improved recently and so I came out and chopped away at the ice so I can come her." Phil, asks her how old she is, and she replies in her 90s!! Phil asks her what is her secret to looking so young, being so fit, so happy...and she replies, "I don't hold any resentments, grudges."
An important philosophy, and one that I try to adhere to as well. Life is too short, and becomes even shorter to nurse negativity!! :)
[We also are going to have a couple workshops/discussions after church on this topic. This upcoming week the psychology of forgiveness. It should be interesting, and my non Roman Catholic gf is coming along to both mass and the workshop, so really cool!! :) ]

So I should probably write the names of the women on my black-list in the sand, right? :)

here is a similar story
Long ago and far away (they all start like that don't they) there were two men on a journey, walking down a long winding path. They had a deadline to meet and did not have time to stop and rest. They came upon an old beggar so filthy, smelly and full of fleas.
The beggar said "I am so tired and hungry, could you spare some of your food. The first man reached into his own bag and pulled out some of his bread for the beggar. The second man said "Why do you give her our food. We have so little for ourselves?"
The beggar said "Thank You! My feet are so blistered and swollen from walking many miles with no shoes. Could you please carry me some distance so that I may continue my journey?" The first man hoisted the beggar up onto is back and began to walk, however much slower than before. The second man said "Why have you picked her up? We will never get to our destination on time now!"
They waked for many miles, all the while the first man carried the beggar woman and the second man complained.
Later the first man set the beggar on the ground and said "I hope you are a bit rested and your feet a bit healed. Perhaps you can sleep a little more easy tonight with a full stomach."
The two men continued on for many more miles and the second man continued to complain. Finally the first man turned to the second and said "I gave her my food, not yours. I burdened my back, not yours. I let her go a long time ago, when will you?"
