Maks Attacks, Says Dancing's Final Three Is Wrong

Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Melanie Brown by Carol Kaelson/ABC
Maksim Chmerkovskiy isn't one to dance around the truth. When asked by TV's Extra if America got the final three right going into the last week of Dancing with the Stars, he says, "I think Jennie [Garth] was better than Marie [Osmond]," who is still in the competition. "Frankly, I think there are a lot of other people better than Marie.”
At the of the day (or Tuesday night, more accurately), who should be crowned champ? Maks believes his own partner, Melanie Brown, "should win," noting, "She’s hands down the best dancer left... [the] most capable, most natural." Alas, as often happens with reality contests, true talent can get trumped. "History shows [Dancing's celeb champ is] either a cute man or somebody with a huge fan base and I think Marie has both Helio and Mel's fan base combined times five."

 Can you say "shoot yourself in the foot"?
Both the celebs and pros need to learn to keep their mouths shut until AFTER the voting is over. Talented or not, sour grapes is a huge turn-off.

It's all about the drahmah ;-)
Sure, the Sox won in 4, but who's talking about that anymore? If it had taken 7 games and they'd lost, there would have been way more entertainment value. And people would still be talking about it!
Me, I'm glad the finished in 4; baseball's not my thing and I'm glad not to be hearing about it anymore...
So what you're saying is DWTS isn't your thing and you want it to be over...

Well, most people would support their own partner of course. But Maksim should be thinking positive thoughts instead of negative thoughts, because he should just be grateful to have lasted this long. And one thing that probably helped Marie is the amount of publicity that she is getting. My mom told me that she can't turn on the television without seeing Marie some place. I found that interesting. So, it's all about how you present yourself on and off the dance floor I think. Good for her.

And just like that, Mel B's chances to win the show disappear because her partner couldn't bite his tongue until till -after- the finale.
I really hope that this doesn't affect the outcome. Over on TVGuide they're running a poll on who you think should win this season and Mel B. has a significant lead over Helio and Marie.

Dear Maks,
You seem like a nice guy. So please. SHUT UP.
Love,
Me
Honestly though I think Mel and Helio are going to split the disaffected Jennie voters and probably benefit from backlash from people who think Marie shouldn't have made the final.

Don't get me wrong, I like Marie and I really have enjoyed her personality.... however, I am beginning to feel like she is milking this to re-ignite hers and her brothers career. It just seems a little weird for her to still be there and I'm beginning to feel Osmond overdosed.

Is anyone on the show not milking it? I mean, really, how many times have they mentioned/shown the Spice Girls? Who just happen to be gearing up for a reunion tour? Everyone's on there to benefit their careers (or try to restart them, like Jennie--what was the last thign she did anyone remembers besides 90210?)

Yes I agree, it just seems like the Osmonds (as adorable as they all are) have been resurrected from the dead. Never watched 90210 so don't really know much about Jennie's career.
Wow, very classy. Especially coming from the guy who's partner only got in 2 hours of practice last week. So I got to say, I agree final 3 is wrong. But I disagree with who should have been kicked out instead of Jennie.

So what you're saying is DWTS isn't your thing and you want it to be over...
Well, when it first came on US TV, I mistakenly thought it was going to be about the dancing. I keep getting proved wrong each week.
Each new season it seems they have to add another inane filler during results night. Each season the music misses the mark. Each season I wonder more what the judges are watching. I do appreciate more and more the job that Tom Bergeron does though. That man sure do roll with the punches of live TV!
I do also appreciate that the show seems to be getting at least some people off their duffs to try dancing. This is a good thing. As for the show itself, I've pretty much been reduced to zipping through the results program to watch the pro showcases.
Come on, some of the fun is about how bad/cheesy it all is! ;)

Um, Helio? I'm not sure how DWTS benefits his career.

As for Maks, well he's just Maks, his statements are true to his character - and the TV drama. But I do love the show. No, it's not really a dance competition or the public wouldn't have a say in the results. It's reality TV and ballroom dance is just the plot. I look at it as entertainment. I also love to watch the celebrities change their opinion of ballroom dance. You can see so many of them begin to really love it and enjoy what they are doing. That is so cool. It does a lot for dancing in this country. I see so many families taking dancing as a family activity as a result of that show. What could be better than that?
Um, Helio? I'm not sure how DWTS benefits his career.
I was just thinking the same thing.

I don't know what is true or isn't true to his character and I wouldn't like to speculate on it...IMO...he was asked a question, answered it candidly, and probably shouldn't have...there are worse mistakes...beyond that...I still continue to be unable to fathom the degree of passion that folks put into this show, particularly as regards the notion that justice has a role to play in the whole thing

Well, I think that for everyone no matter what kind of career they have, benefits from the publicity the show is able to give them. For example, no one in my family even knew who Helio was, but at this point... we all want him to win. And at the same time, I would like to see more of him in the future, and I know other people that do as well. So, because of that, he could expand his career. Who knows, but to me, it does benefit everyone to some degree even if it's just for the publicity itself.

ooops didn't mean to imply that Maks had a flawed character - just that he is candid and that is part of who he is - which I actually like. It's *******ing to me for someone to just say what they think. It won't always get you brownie points, but I don't think he cares.
The degree of passion that people put into this show (as well as SYTYCD and others like it) is what is getting many into ballroom dancing. The more people in this country dancing is driving ballroom dancing as a commercial entity. This puts more products on the market for all of us and drives the prices down. Families are enjoying it and getting closer as a result of their dancing together. People are loosing weight, lowering cholesterol (me!), and getting off the sofa!
I say, get as passionate as they can and learn to enjoy dance as much as we all do.

as regards enthusiasm for ballroom and fitness, I am ALL THERE...but the sort of "death to the enemy" mentality that some folks have about their particular favorites just blows my mind...meh...it isn't neccessary that I understand it nor do I mean to cast any aspersions...it just befuddles me...I am assaulted every week at the gym...as I will be this morning ...by people who are outraged and want to know my opinion...just sorta mystifies me...

Shoe prices are becoming very competitive. Try googling Very Fine shoes and see how much less you can get them now than a year ago. Also, there is a larger second hand market and the ability to get a used costume in great condition has caused the prices of newer dresses to come down. Even Chrisanne has launched their "Two" line to be more competitive. Now if you are only buying your products at competitions where the vendors have to mark up their products by 10 to 20 percent to pay for entry fees, well then you won't see a big difference.
"I think Jennie [Garth] was better than Marie [Osmond]" answered the question and dealt with the latest ellimination.
"Frankly, I think there are a lot of other people better than Marie.”
This is where Maks probably ticked some people off. I don't think his remarks will influence voting but if Mel loses people may want to blame Maks in part. I know, I'm really one to say other people should keep their mouths shut (ha!) but I do wish Maks had held his tongue...

Mel/Maks could take 3rd place, since their fan base seems to be smaller than Marie's and Helio/Julianne's. Marie will be 2nd. I'll be shocked if Helio doesn't win. He has everything going for him - women's votes, Julianne's popularity, car racing fans, and not being a showbiz person like Marie and Mel and able to dance the way he does, which is impressive to viewers.

She was on that show "What I Like About You" with Amanda Bynes, but I think it was canceled a year or so ago. But yeah, I think she was missing her family at the end there and is happy being at home.
Enjoying family and being there doesn't have to preclude everything outside the home . . . and future opportunities might be easier than trying to learn how to dance and do two routines a week!

Well, of course not. Jennie's comments indicated a jumpstarted acting career is not her first priority.

Marie is on the cover of magazines at supermarket checkouts, she was on Larry King (although I missed it). Donny talks about her on various Hollywood gossip shows. She has her fans from her doll collection and the entire state of Utah. Marie appeals to an older audience who love this show and never heard of Spice Girls and probably don't know or support racing. Pretty hard to beat. Still, I join all those who wish it could be the best dancer rather than the one iwth the biggest fan base. Sigh!

It'll be interesting to see who wins tomorrow night. I know Marie has that huge fan base...
Maks and Tony have been making videos together on the Ballroom Dance Channel Social: http://ballroomdancechannel.ning.com/ and I think Maks is hinting that he may not be back next season because he wants to go back to teaching his students for a while.
It would be nice to see Maks win because he has been on the show for four season now. Helio is probably the most talented though (raw talent at least), he works so hard and that is reflected in his performance.

I would speculate that since ballroom dancing isn't terribly popular among the younger generation(s) (or so it seems) that Julianne won't have the fan support like Marie. The older women might find Julianne cute but they'll vote for MO.

(Note: I haven't watched a single episode this season, so I don't know if I'm missing anything major this season that would have altered my opinion.)
I don't think that it will have much effect. As previously mentioned, it is a reality show, not a ballroom competition. Yes, talent and skill may factor in somewhat, but once you boil it down, it is a popularity conest (remember when Master P lasted for FAR too long?).

Once they get eliminated they can do pro/am together.

Marie's response to Maks' harsh comments:
http://extratv.warnerbros.com/2007/11/marie_reacts_to_maks.php
"I think ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ when I signed on for this, was about non-dancers becoming dancers. And it’s about improvement!”
Anyway, dialidol is picking Mel/Maks to win based on phone votes; Helio is 2nd, and Marie last. Looks like Maks didn't cost Mel any votes with his nasty comments (and nastier freestyle choreography).
Helio will have to hope text and online votes will make up grounds for them.

If Marie or Helio win, I wonder if Maks will continue with DwtS. He had an ideal partner this season, and a darn good one last season as well, and there's still a chance he could lose to the cute male celeb or the fan favorite. I'm pretty sure he's under contract for one more season, but I won't blame him if he walks away from the show should he and Mel lose.

Hmm... I know from the men that I talk to that they love Julianne. She's all they talk about. And what's interesting is that they talk about how great of a dancer she is compared to everyone else. I like Julianne though, and would love to take lessons from her if I ever get the chance to. But yeah, from talking to the males that I know (that know nothing about dance mind you lol), they love her! It just depends on if they vote. So, she's got the audience as well as Helio and anyone else for that matter from what I have gathered anyways.
