Hi! i ran into this website while searching for dance lessons over the internet. Ive had alot of problems finding good lessons, because most of them arent free and are just publicities for video tapes, so here it goes: each time i go at a party i eventually get alittle drunk and start dancing, but because i cant dance i look like an idiot, and im getting tired of it. Can anyone please give me some tips on basic movements and moves on hip-hop dancing?? Thanks alot!

Go somewhere where people are learning how to dance. It's cool to go to the parties too, but it's also good to have some friends who are into dancing too. So go to a school, or at least ask some good dancers how they learned or if they can show you a few moves.

And welcome to the Dance Forums!

Hi. If you are in the UK I can make a couple of suggestions on instructors. The best I've seen is a guy called Adam who does hip-hop both as a singleton and partnered - and the partnered stuff is just so impressive! He's 16 years old and his dance partner is 15 - and they are not only good dancers but good instructors (I should hate them both). They do workshops at some of the more advanced Modern Jive events.

Post details of where you live - I'm sure some folk on this forum must be able to help wherever you are. In the meantime keep practicing - close the curtains, get in front of the mirror and go for it!

Welcome to df icantdance!! Glad to have you with us and hope to see more of you around. :) Try www.bustamove.com It has a hip-hop line dance called the wizard dance that is free, plus shows a little of the basic hip hop steps. Also...watching music videos can help.

I knw. Actually the wizard dance, under party dances, is completely free. You can learn the hip hop moves in that. What I do for the others is repeat the free clip over and over again, concentrating on one aspect/part of a move at a time. It works for me.

Listen to a lot of hiphop music....WATCH videos.. that's where u learn in the privacy of your own room..and u get a feel for it...and if you watch it enough..you'll eventually get some moves down...that's for starters...to get your body in tune with it, if you don't want to make a fool infront of people..and then when u have that down and u can at least two steps to the rhythm...u should check out ur community... well it depends on where u live tho!

Hi, Im new in this dance forum thing, I just registered and im trying to get into the swing of things.(sorry about the pun). I am 17 and Ive Danced since I was four. But not hiphop, just tap and jazz. I have been in hiphop for 3 years. It was alot easier then the others, but i watched as others tried to get into it, and it seems hard for them. I got many community service hours by helping student in my class. This gave me fulfillment to be helping them and it also gave me the community service hours i need to graduate this year. Anyways, the main advice i would give a new dancer joining a dance class, is talk to a dancer and learn how to count first and then its kind of a breeze. I dont know about anybody else in this forum but im pretty sure alot of them would say counting is a key, Even in hiphop. If you are just wondering how to dance and not joining a class, then you should put the music on and listen to the beats before you just break down and bust a move. Thanks!
