Welcome to DF. The answer depends a lot on the school you go to. Your best source of information is fellow students who have already attended a dance at that school.

Ours were mostly the "swaying back and forth" slowdance types, and general freestyle stuff to faster songs. The Electric Slide is a popular one at school dances, to the point of overkill. Every so often they would play something country.

Like IJ said above, ask around to see what's regularly done.

I never was much of a dancer back in school to be honest... Ballroom has since changed that :)

Keep your feet apart, no more than your shoulder width (a bit less would be better). Transfer your weight from one foot to the other (this is called a "weight change"). Do this by moving your whole body from one side to the other; it's the movement of your body that she'll feel and follow, not your feet.

Divide the beat: make a weight change every other beat. It's not an abrupt stepping, but rather you move smoothly, maybe overshooting a bit, then moving back into the next step.

As you step, you can shift your foot's position slightly so that you turn slowly. It's better if you step slightly back to turn, since it's easier for her to follow you that way. You could also step backwards or sideways, or forward as you gain confidence.

You can also on occasion step on every beat if the music calls for it at that point. Not too much nor too often, but it helps add some variety. Turning while you do it also works better. Only try it after you've become confident with the basic every-other-beat.

I won't even mention the dip.
