Hi, I am a new member of the dance forums. I have been ballroom/swing/countrywestern/latin dancing for almost 5 years, and I am getting married in April to a (gasp!) non-dancer. He has gone with me to many dances, though and he actually has learned a few basic steps since we started dating and wants to learn more. He is going to take some lessons before the wedding. I wanted to do a first dance at the reception, but am having a hard time picking out a song. I am thinking a foxtrot or waltz would be good and easiest for him to learn. But the songs I like the most for a first dance are more like a nightclub two-step, which would be harder for him to learn and make it look like anything other than slow dancing. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks

Hi jxntwinkletoes! Congrats on the upcoming wedding. I'll try to dig up a couple threads for you. There was one around here somewhere on music for wedding dances, including father/daughter dances. And there's another one that I think might give you a laugh -- would you date or marry a non-dancer? I'm glad to see that, in your case, love is triumphant, dancer or not. 8)
Welcome. :D

Here's another. would you date or marry someone who is not a dancer? (http://www.dance-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=780)
Should be good for a laugh. Almost everybody said no. Go figure. :?

Here are some more links. I'll try not to post any that are trying to sell the latest in wedding party favors. These sites can be so crass and commercial. :?
This one appears to be a non-commercial info site http://www.centralvalleybridal.com/msuggest.html
This one is totally commercialized, but has lots of suggestions, so hold your nose and read on. weddingromance.com/music/Reception__First_Dance_Songs/index.html
Also commercial, but not too crass. weddingzone.net/p-top50.htm
Do you know what difficult to dance to song I've seen a lot of people dance (meaning grope and sway LOL) to? At Last, by Etta James. Not sure what dance I'd do to that, but I love the sentiment.
Sorry. Couldn't resist. I love that song.
At last my love has come along
My lonely days are over
And life is like a song
Ohh yeah yeah
At last
the skies above are blue
My heart was wrapped up in clover
The night I looked at you
I found a dream, that I could speak to
A dream that I can call my own
I found a thrill to press my cheek to
A thrill that I have never known
Ohh yeah yeah…
You smile, you smile
oh And then the spell was cast
And here we are in heaven
for you are mine....
At Last

Man! It looks like the link in the eijkhout post is no longer supported. I'll keep looking.

Okay. Here's one more, to make up for the expired links. This one has sound clips and links directly to amazon.com, so I won't hot link it. It lists title, artist and type of dance for each song suggestion.
