Does anyone happen to know how this shine came about? I just read something about jive and it mentioned a number of "figures" with the Suzy Q being one of them.
So is the Suzy Q "borrowed" from the jive or is this one of those moves that has the same name but means something different
If this is a jive move that has been "borrowed", does anyone happen to know how it became known as Suzy ie. was it a dancer/teacher by the name of Suzy that first did it?

From http://www.streetswing.com/histmain/z3suzyq1.htm:
The Suzy-Q became popular in 1937. It is basically a step done along with or within another dance form. Can be done as a solo, couple or group. The Suzy-Q is most often connected with Jitterbug and Swing dancing in general and only consist of four steps or movements:
1) first to the right, for four movements,
2) then repeat four times to the left (8 beats total).
Hands are held together or interlocking little fingers in front of you, heel of right forward and start swiveling on heel right to left (like waving a finger back and forth but with foot), moving to the right, then repeat to the left.

We actually had this discussion somewhere else once upon a time (sorry, can't remember where right now)... but decided that the slasa and swing Suzy Qs were different things. That salsa Suzy Q, at least as far as how I've alsways seen and done it is on the balls of the feet, not the heels.
