Hey folks, tomorrow is February 29. Any special plans for Leap Year Day? A lot of folks call it Sadie Hawkins Day (a misnomer, actually, since Sadie Hawkins day was instituted on November 15.) But, either way, tomorrow is a day, according to American folk tradition, where the gender role tables turn, and women can ask men from everything from a dance, to a date, to their hands in marriage. Special plans, anyone? Ladies?

I went to a "Sadie Hawkins Dance" on Friday (who's going to miss the Oscars on Sunday?). I should have found some gentlemen to ask to go to this (that's the point isn't it). It was a very small, local event. I went with another lady from my studio, and my instructor and his wife (friends of theirs organized it.) Well, I certainly got my money's worth dancing with my instructor. Several times we were the only ones on the floor. Other times, we were in a corner doing west coast swing and everyone else (from teenagers to seniors) was doing freestyle. We all had a laugh and a shock when my instructor took my to the floor for a obvious cha-cha and we did freestyle! That's one dance not in my syllabus!

Anyway, a good time was had by all. The DJ led a few fun line dances.
One lady requested a tango (so she could see what dances she wanted to learn! I'll do my part for commerce.) So I had to grab my instructor for a tango. Another "showcase" but I had enough wine in me for it not to matter.

So, a few people are now exposed to ballroom who may not have been. Now, they'll go see Havana Nights, and then, well, we'll see!

It was. When we first walked in, we nearly walked right out. Sometimes it pays to try something new!

I didn't do anything special this year (except ask my SO to marry me LOL), so next year I'm going out dancing. I've always enjoyed the one or two Sadie Hawkins dances during public ballroom dances here. I wonder what would happen if I applied that to a whole day. Hmm. :D
