Came across this website, which has some interesting quotes from dancers.

http://animal_lover70.tripod.com/adancersworld/id9.html

Some of them you might have come across before. This is one that I haven't and liked :D

"Learning to walk set you free. Learning to dance gives you the greatest freedom of all: to express your whole self, the person you are."~Melissa Hayden

There was also a fun list of "You know you are a dancer when"?

~you bend over to pick up something, one leg automatically shots up to 180* angel with feet pointed

 guilty but now that salsa is my "pride and joy", I wonder if it shows because I bend my knees instead, or that I am "becoming older"

You know you're a dancer when:

You are walking down the aisle in a shop (video shop, groceries, whatever) scanning the shelves and realise you are doing a grapevine movement so that you can be square on to the shelves, but still move down the aisle!

I do this quite often! :D

I've done that before I learned to dance

You know you are a dancer when:

Your hair stylist/dentist/whoever notices that you point when you get into the chair.

Reviving this thread:

You know you're a dancer when ...

A couple on the dance floor is doing a really cool move and you watch the one who's the same gender as you are.

Explanation:
Gleaned this from personal observation. As a guy, quite naturally it's the women who are going to catch my attention. But when dancing is involved, I tend to pay closer attention to what the guy is doing, in the way of taking mental notes of techniques I could try.

HAHAHAHAHA! Man, can I relate. Not that I would tell any non-dancers!

Great thread.

You know you're a dancer when you go to a salon for a pedicure and freak out when they try to slough off your callouses. "Nononono! Those are my spin spots! I need them!!!"

You ask for the syllabi books for Christmas and are extatic when you get them.

You can tell from one glance how high those heels are. Exactly. Oh yeah, and the brand and the style number of the shoes, too. Oh, and "Supadance" does not sound silly.

"Spaghetti" refers to arms, not food.

"Salsa" is not food either.

You drink better when you dance (I think my bf should copyright that one).

You are aware that "Shall We Dance" is a remake and that the original was waaaaay better. But you go and see the remake anyway--of course you do, it has dancing in it!!

"A heavily stoned dress" does not elicit even a slight giggle.

You know you're a dancer because you soul tells you that you are.

Your soul informs you
that you are
a dancer
in no uncertain terms.
You are helpless to refute
or even to edit
sometimes,
dancing in the store, or
the park
or anywhere you are.
This is the essence
the center
the core.
You dance
because you must.
The music
lifts you
to your feet
and the body must express,
though the place
may not be
"a place to dance"
as circumscribed
by society,
dance
you must.
Yes, they stare.
But they also envy.
They also enjoy.
They also wish
they could be
so passionate,
so open
so delightful
so alive.

You are a dancer and don't need anybody to validate the notion. You just know it. You can be fat, or skinny, or really ugly, or clumsy, but when you dance, you're beautiful because it makes your heart feel beautiful. And yes, it's ok to sniffle, and sometimes openly weep when you see the brightly-polished, chandeliered ballrooms used as "dance movie" sets.

you become a dancer when:

you no longer follow steps, but make them your own so that everyone who sees you sees a small part of you. even doing the same steps with 20 other people...if they arn't yours then they are lifeless and nothing but empty steps.

i think its funny when you can see a dancers passion because even when they try bowling they "dance" up to the little line where you throw the ball...and sometimes when music is a quick movement is shown that has been bursting to come out.

when your waiting in line, or at work, and suddenly realize you've been dancing to some far off melody that only you can hear that your body has been dying to move to.

when your soul moves to the music you are a dancer

An earlier post in this thread refered to this page: http://www.dancersdreamland.com/youknow.htm

Taking its "You Know You're a Dancer..." link [http://www.dancersdreamland.com/youknowdancer.htm], I found this:
When you are walking, you count your steps but only go up to 8 and start all over again.

I used to do that all the time as a kid, especially when walking to and from school.

Even though I didn't start learning to dance until I was 48, apparently I really was a "natural-born dancer" anyway. Who would'a known?

you're upset your feet hurt so much you have to stop dancing temporarily, but you make up for it by dancing with at least 6 different partners after you take a break.

Oh man, you put me on the spot! Honestly, I recognize the box every time i go shopping. I'll be lost if they ever change the design!
I think they're the BandAid waterproof ones, although sports tape stays just as well, it just looks nasty after a while.

From quotes to nasty-looking tape...d'you think I hi-jacked this thread sufficiently?

You know your a dancer when your gym instructor yells at you for,
a)Pointing your toes when you should be flexing.
b)Keeping your pelvis tucked neatly under you when doing squats  .
c)Making pretty arms instead of sharp boxing movements.

I think they're the BandAid waterproof ones,

Yes they are the ones!
