Hey all, I'm new here, and basically I just have a question that needs answering. Do you absolutely need to go out and buy a pair of special shoes for tap? I'm asking this because for xmas, someone got me a tap set that comes with everything, but the actually shoes (the taps and screws to screw them in are there) and to be honest, if I could use a pair of dress shoes that have the right sized heels, rather then trying to hunt down a store thats no wheres near my small town (I already no there isnt any) that sells the shoes, that would be great for me on a personal level.

Maybe you should make a list of the things that could go wrong if you try it, and decide if that risk is controllable or acceptable.

This will not work for a couple of reasons;

1. the soles of dress shoes are not conducive to the movement of the feet for tap.
2. you did not mention the pads that should accompany the taps/screws/etc. In order for the taps to fit/work properly, one must have the pads that go with them.

If there is no opportunity close to you for buying proper shoes, try the web. Places like Leo's, and a couple of others, are great at coordinating/accepting sizing over the web, and sending the properly fitted shoes. Mine are the flexible arched; ...love them.
