Only as a spectator, Saturday(?) afternoon - have to check the schedule.
What's the dresscode? Should I wear a suit?

If only everyone would follow the dress code...
Last comp we went to, the program specified the evening event was Formal. So I wear suit and tie, GF wears a nice evening dress, complimentary jewelry, etc. Typical formal attire.
Apparently everyone else felt Formal Attire meant T-shirts and bluejeans...
We went to an opera once, also dressed in formal attire. Opera, formal. Kinda goes together, right?
Again... T-shirts and bluejeans.
*swats everyone over the head with the etiquette book*
Ok, I'm done. Just wishing more people appreciated dressing up correctly..

So what part of Indiana is this one? Might make a nice day trip for us.

fasc, are you dancing A or B? if you are dancing A, we will probably be competing against each other. :-)

not dancing open yet so I doubt it....also not dancing much there in general(uh, at least in relationship to how much I usually dance)...doing a in some things and b in others...absolutely lost track of my entries though... same pro as great race?

same pro as great race and same smooth stuff....havne't started back to standard yet...as I am lazy and has just been pushing things back. Well, that and the fact that my partner search wasn't successful...too bad that my original plan was to dance standard and smooth at IN challenge, just didn't happen.
I am dancing closed scholarship in a in addition to the open stuff...so...we might be on the same floor ;)

But, I'm wearing a costume (just bought from my pro's pro partner) for the first time at a comp so looking foward to that too :)

Last pre-competition lesson tonight! Competing in Smooth Saturday morning (closed stuff and closed scholarship) and Saturday evening dancing Smooth open scholarship. So excited!!!! :p
FYI: I will be bringing 2 dresses, one cotton candy (pinkish red) color and one in royal blue (by randall). Both dresses will be available for sale in the 1xxx range. The blue one can go anytime during the comp. The cotton candy one has to wait till Sat night since I will be wearing it on Saturday! So, come find me at the comp if you would like to try on some dresses! I should say that the size is about a 6-10 for the blue one, and 10-14 for the cotton candy one. Send me a PM and I will let you know how to find me at the comp! :p

yea...i'd say...not to diminish the placments at all but when the top two are a latin couple and a standard couple, both very new to smooth...just a mirror of the current smooth upheaval imo...
Hmm - I'm confused, Fascination. I think Tecza/Lindholm are the Standard couple that you reference in Pro Smooth; but do you mean Rykowski/Marie as the Latin couple now doing Pro Smooth? I've never seen Rykowski/Marie dance Latin, but I know they competed Pro 9-Dance at USDSC last year.
fascination

correct(re erin and greg)...but the smooth is new to them and latin (not rhythm) is clearly his starting point... regardless of what they danced in the fall...and hersas well, as far as I can see...having said that, I think it's cool that that both couples are venturing into smooth and of course their timing is very good...but one has to conceed that the upheaval is helping new couples considerably

my bigger surprise was that rachel and alex didn't make it to the rhythm finals as I see their dancing improving so much

When I was making my personal picks from the semi to the final, the top 3 were very clearly the top 3 - but my personal recalls for the remaining spots were all over the place.
Still, I agree - Rachel/Alex were a bit unlucky to miss the final. They make a nice partnership.

I wish you were there Sat evening, but figured you weren't as I didn't see your pro there, either. Just that, I am trying to get some comments from ppl about our dancing that evening, since pro was very suprised about our result... I am actually OK with it, but I am always the more pessimistic one though ;)
and yeah, I like your blue dress as well! It looks good on you and I like it better than the standard one you had. :D
Yeah, I feel the same way about DeSantes. They are close personal friends and I want them to do well so badly I can't see straight, heh heh.

I agree this should not diminish the placements as fascination said . . . but I'm not sure this reflects on any upheaval or changeout - there are some new faces, but top couples didn't show mostly because its not on the main circuit - again, not a negative, just counting from the top down.
Alex and Katya are new to smooth, but I'll bet they've got something good going for them given that their Standard and Latin training should show through, starting with quality of movement from the ground up.
Can't wait to see some of these I haven't seen yet!

dunno reb this comp is no longer a small one and has had a larger showing of pros in the smooth even when smaller...however, I do personally agree with you on the quality of the two mentioned...pro has always felt that a couple with a male who is strong in standard and a female who is strong in ballet have always had an edge...and it is certainly true that we are seeing more and more of a latin look in smooth......anyhow, I have the highest regard for both couples...but I did find it odd that both are really quite new to smooth...there are generally some fairly big names in the smooth at indiana, though admittedly not to the degree that the biggest comps turn out...anyhow, for me, b/c I know both couples a bit, it's exciting to watch the transition

if you are talking about the red, that one is long gone...which one are you talking about?...also, if you want, pm me me about your evening results...am not sure what you mean or against whom you danced...but, imo, you can really only assess how you danced...I think most people who dance alot have had some of the most bizarre results on frequent enough of an occasion to know that trying to get in the mind of a judge who only has a few minutes of your dancing...or less...is, well, not a very prudent venture...keeps me sane to remember that most of the time...

and while I am at it, let me just say that what I really like about alex an katya is that you can tell that they are a couple...they dance as real partners, despite the fact that alex has such massive power and she is so slight...I was also real struck by them as a couple watching them social dance last year in wisconsin when he was injured...it was just so nice to watch them actually want to get out there and be together...a very cool couple...and I think erin and greg should also not be underestimated ...they are really fresh and seem to work well together and have a very exotic feel to them b/c of what I percieve to be their strong latin background...then again, I am no expert...just my thoughts...will be interesting to see how the year unfolds for both couples

I ended up not going to spectate due to a schedule conflict. Many of my friends from social dancing were competing, so it would have been fun to go!
I'd thought that the South Bend competition might be the next nearby opportunity, but a notice on its web site indicates that it will not happen as scheduled in May.

Maybe issue was that I said FA pros won, but didn't say who. OK, if I remember right:
Pro Rhythm
1. Jackie and Ken
2. Aaron and Jaana
3. Ilya and Mandy
4. Aleks and Britney
Pro Smooth
3. Chris and Simona
If you want last names, just check the Pro open results from St Louis, as I put their last names in on those results, and not going to try to spell ilya/Mandy's or Jaana's without having it in front of me to copy. :)
