It's happened. I've volunteered to format, create, and publish an on-line newsletter for my local USABDA chapter, and I figured this would be a great place to get some ideas for content people would like to see.

Here are some ideas I have so far for features to be updated monthly:

links to local ballroom instuctors and studios
listings of dance venues (perhaps an interactive calendar)
puzzles/quotes/humor
at least one article on technique
a beginner's corner article with tips on how to get started

I have other ideas, too, but don't want to shape the conversation too much. If you were going to read a ballroom ezine, what would you like to see?

info on ranked pros (as opposde to the "pros" who have no business teaching if you know what I mean) who are local or quasi-local (ie tampa/miami/etc)

less about the politics of dancing and more about what is edifying about dancing

"a day in the life" series following a pro couple from each discipline, am couple and male & female pro/ams.

Info on local comps and results from said comps

It's because whoever creates them does a nice job for the local chapter here that I like it, but if your chapter produces and distributes flyers for its events include a link for downloading these in PDF or MS Word format.

I found that info on GOOD Ballroom dance shoes would be helpful== including ads from vendors.

I mean...I have searched the web for shoes... but it would be nice to know which companies are reliable, have good customer service etc. It would be even better to find LOCAL vendors for such things.....What brands tend to be the most durable, or beautiful or ?? Where do I go for custom shoes?

Maybe a section on the latest "Gear", and of course, the latest dress fashions.

I also think it would be important to have an article on the latest big competitions from someone who attended, including a few pics.

Definitely BIO's (or spotlights) of important people in the industry would be smart for newbies to learn.

Yes. It would be great to have info on dance shoes. I'll have to approach that one carefully, though. There's one major ballroom shoe dealer in town, who doesn't stock all the brands out there, so I'll have to be careful recommending other stuff. Everything is political. Hmm.

I like the idea about articles on comp results or experiences, too. Hmm. Lots of food for thought. Thanks.

I for one would subscribe, and, as I'm new to all of this, I'd be happy to read just about anything.

Some things I like about non-dance e-news though are product demos/reviews, professional spotlights/interview- BUT dealing with more than just their "they won this in this year and then studied here and did this"- I want some candid "about the person" info... I can read any of their stats for myself, but if you like a person, team, horse, whatever- you want to know about them- not stalker/going-through-garbage stuff, but fun stuff. Maybe tips or "how tos" of steps or something once in awhile.

Whatever happens should be neat though.

Pick up a copy of "Amateur Dancer" magazine. Then study this - and whatever and however they do things... DO NOT do them. Unfortunately, this mag is everything that you DON'T want to see about dancesport...

I'm SURE I can. We must be a bunch of dancing rednecks around here. Our family tree don't fork.  Did I SAY that out loud?!

edited to fix a spelling error. ugh.
