Anyone heard of this hybrid before?
I realize that bachata can borrow things from Tango in general, but some searches on youtube seem to have a similarity in song choice and to include both a lot of bachata as well as tango (not just borrowing a few dips).
Just one example that came up (and one of the clearer/more well-lit ones at that):

I see 95% bachata with a couple ganchos and an occasional promenade. Sure, but what's the point aside from generating some $$$ at a novelty workshop?

Ok, it's not that bad! It mixes up standard bachata nicely, I think.

I find the 'hybrid' dance to be a bit on the silly part.... why not just learn tango? It is beautiful. Or, just incorporate the moves into bachata and it is still bachata... It is just a marketing ploy....

It is just a marketing ploy.... Its not always a marketing ploy in my opinion, sure many times it is,but sometimes people just like to be different and change the styles around.but all the dance forms that i know of generally speaking have jumped on the band wagons of -money money money-ballroom, salsa, hustle, west coast , etc.... EGO is a powerfull force in human nature-people will pay high prices for privates with local teachers here, i laugh and shake my head , but its ther choice. i still liked what they did on the videos.which leads to another point, why learn tango? in its original form(back in the motherland) Italians, French & Spanish folk & Mixed, were just making things up(some of them looked great) others not so good, men were dancing with each other and they were in most cases not Gay.In a manner of speaking why learn Tango just feel if you CAN and Flow, that what they DID.

I'm pretty sure I copyrighted the name to prevent this kind of thing from happening.
Nah.......I own the name Bachango & Salchata:confused:
What about Swango or Merengo?
They're just playing Tango Moderno music dancing bachata. So one minute you're leading with your hands and then you're leading with your chest. How does this work when social dancing?
I've seen Tango added to Salsa sequences and little things added for styling. This is fine on stage but get a Salsa guy in a class to add a Ocho to a sequence and you will get a very unleadable Ocho.
They are just learning choerographed routines?
I don't really like Tango (too serious) and I hate Bachata (the songs are too needy) but this terrible.
Like cross-breeding a donkey with a horse....the mule is sterile. Leaving room for another gimmickto come along.
Still funny to look at though.

Meh. Not bad. Certainly better than the "Argentine Tango" that's been shown on countless TV shows. I've seen and done plenty of those things (usually with less hip action going on, but I've had that worked in there, too) with more liberal tango leaders. No big deal. The only thing I see is that they're keeping the same bachata rhythm throughout, with the exception of poses and whatnot, which makes it more boring than it has to be.
Hey...if the people are happy, and the instructors are making an honest living, who cares?

Well, I am no dance expert but as long as they are enjoying the dance and having fun... isn't that the point :)

Hmm ... is this somehow tied into salsa? Did you ask in the tango section?

I like to see different views of dancing. I for one love fusing different dances together. I have always loved Tango and to mix it with my Bachata only seems right. It allows me to move more easily around the dance floor and not be stuck with the side to side basic. I do travel around the world teaching people how to fuse different dances styles into Bachata. I want to educate and show this it possible to express yourself in different way and to open the possibilities for creativity. Dancing about expressing yourself and not about following rules. I love to listen and let music move me. To learn more about my style check out www.bachatatango.com (http://www.bachatatango.com/)

Haven't seen one here on the DF. There are so many great bachatas out there...often used as rumbas at BR comps. Actually, I was listening to a good CD earlier today..."Volvere: El Cheval de la Bachata".

I find fusing Bachata and American Rumba to be enjoyable and works great with Bachata music. If Argentine Tango music is played, I will be happy to just dance Tango without the Bachata.

Another adaption for Bachata is Rueda de Bachata "invented" by the Hips on Fire group, Casino Rueda seems more natural with salsa.
There's a sample snip from one of their DVDs at www.ruedadebachata.com
from the OC ocsalsa.ning.com

Thats alright and I would support you. But, the example at the beginning of this thread got more to do with Milonga (afro-argentine polka, mostly in 2/2) than with TA. We must take into account the essence of the music and dances, not only their shape and the steps.
